Human Soul: Pre-Programmed?

I'm starting this topic in light of a question stemming from the Makes you ponder topic .

The question at hand relates to the title: "Is the human soul pre programmed?" Meaning, do specific, learned, idealistic personality traits extend from parents to their children? Here's my example:

I was adopted at birth, and met my birth mother and father when I was 18. Ironically, we share many perspectives on life, contrary to the environment I was brought up in with my adoptive parents. Though I only met my father twice, we share and uncanny resemblance to each other (which is semi-normal). The intriguing part is that we had a very similar child hood concerning our religious beliefs and determination to defy authority. Though, now, he is a born again Christian. This is only the tip of the iceberg, because I barely know him,.... the similarities to myself and my mom are even scarier.

She grew up in a very religious family, like myself,.... yet, she always knew that something wasn't right, she just didn't believe. I've always felt that way too. Not only religious positions, but political also. She grew up, like me, in a suburban white neighborhood, where diversity is nearly non existent. Though our families were very conservative (you know, the uncles who use the N word all the time and view every non white person as a plague, regardless of scenario), we were able to see past that, and again, use an open mind to make our own, personal, evaluations of the situation and make a rational decision on what is actually the best for humanity.

I could go on and on, giving examples,... but this is my point:

I believe that my soul was partially preprogrammed with some of life's more important -learned- and -"un" learned- questions. I also incorporate this theory into my theory pertaing to human evolution.

Human existance is ever evolving, since the moment the crowe magnas' sprung from the heart of africa, and most likely through the neandertals before them,...ect, ect,... we are evolving every generation.

Rationality plays a huge part in this evolving process. I believe that irrational people; racists, religious radicals, athiests, ect, ect.... slow down the process. When something of great magnitude is learned by a parent, or even exposed, I think it's plugged directly into the DNA, sorta like an ever expanding blueprint of what we know works best. That blue print, get added to every generation, growing stronger upon the way. Of course, the individual must be exposed to these elements and given the opportunity to introduce them into their soul, for the information to be absorbed and utilized by the brain.

That will be it for the moment,.... if any part of that rant got confusing, post the question with your comment/opinion.

:D

Sorry, couldn't resist: "Cro-Magnon".

No, I don't think we're programmed, we learn to do almost everything. We're pushed around by outside forces in order to do anything. About the only thing we as humans do instinctively is breathing and our heartbeat; even then, sometimes the breathing has to be initiated when you're a baby (a slap to get out the fluids, turn the child over to make sure it doesn't suffocate).

Still, there's stuff like stimulus-response and fight-or-flight reations that can't be explained by learning. I think they are part of being an animal first, a human later.

well... i don't think the "soul" is preprogrammed... as pupik said, there are too many outside forces that act as influence upon us

Maybe they should research into this
seperate two identical twins at birth, then see how they grow up and compare

Yes and no, is my opinion. Well, I guess, no...

Your soul isn't pre-planned and everything. It's what you make of it, who's around you, everything you absorb and take in.
Many of your habits, however, are preplanned. Something like leaning to one side over the other, being an introvert or extrovert(me, myself, am an introvert, and an extreme one at that. Let me explain: I talk a lot, sure, but that's in public settings. When I'm alone or with just one or two other people, I'm usually very quiet. I get this from both of my parents, but mostly from my dad, which I regret... Another funny thing, my dad doesn't want to be like his father, I don't want to be like mine. That might just be an all-male thing though...)

Back on topic. Soul is not preplanned. Unless pre-planned souls know some tragic or myserious event is going to happen, such as seeing a UFO or something, I think it's what people make of it. Habits, they're inherited

You misinterpreted that mile,.... learned traits meaning:

If my mom learned something important about life, is that inscrpited into her genes and passed to me at birth,... waitin idle until the moment that I have the same experience to where that information can be pulled out of the genes,.. almost like a trigger,...

Absolutely not then. Human experience has no mutative effect, and that is the only effect that can change, or "inscript" genes. Your talking about biological evolution based on experiential/emotional/psychological phenomena, which is only tenable in mysticism and religion.

Well, one thing I've always debated in my mind is the case of "alcoholism is genetically transferred"...at first I thought, no it can't be.

But when you really think about what DNA and RNA are, they can be affected by chemicals just the same. Slowy, a substance like alcohol can be absorbed my DNA, and changed. It can become more accepting of alcohol, for example.

But I agree with milefile, you can't put knowledge into DNA and transfer it to another human being. Although it's open to debate, human souls aren't usually transmutable; whether or not they truly exist is another matter altogether.

I think you have to learn, no matter what. And learning is a life-long process. You can react like an animal, and whether it's socially acceptable or not depends on the family, culture, religion, politics, environment, etc.

An anaolgy would be to comapre your mind to a computer hard drive. It's blank at first, and your parents or whatever teaches you is the operating system. Your operating system can be a religion, or someother inspiration for example. You pick up expeiernces, and they are rather like files; except you don't always have such a nice tree-directory structure. You have to save your work constantly, or you'll forget someday.

Hopefully, you'll never suffer a General Protection Fault.
