As a petrol head i don't like 'em in the real world, well except Honda's crz which i had in gt5, thing is it had a little gauge by the petrol gauge indicating the battery charge and which way the charge was going but it doesn't seem to have it on 6, does anyone know if this only appears in races where petrol consumption is a concern or have PD forgotten the fact its a petrol electric hybrid and removed it?

Yep, noticed this also. In one of the eco challenges where the CRZ is to be used to do a full lap of Suzuka with one liter of fuel o could not see it anywhere. Not sure if it is included in normal arcade driving. Perhaps they forgot or didn't think anybody took notice of it so didn't think it was necessary to include.

As well also noticed on the Prius in GT5, but didn't notice it in the Prius mission race in GT6.
