No its not what you think, im not going to ask for ways to use them. heh.

I was thinking, its possible to edit the cars in GT3, no doubt that people will also be able the GT4 garage as well. Seeing as they are able to do this then what happens about the online play capability. I mean noone wants to be racing against a 5000+ BHP car that can do 1000 mph when they have a 600 bhp capable of 170. Does anyone have any information to stop hybrid cars entering a game that has all stock cars. Would ruin the game greatly for online play.

i think that they'll probably keep online play limited to "arcade" cars, just for ease. then you can just limit a race to a class of car similar to the way gt3 handles ilink races. if gt3 couldn't handle garages for ilink races, there's no way that they're going to get the relevant data from ps2 to another ps2 over the internet and make it playable. because each car is SO complex, it would be much easier to just load the data locally.

ex: you have a car with mods a,b,c,d,e,f, and g.
each mod has setting h,i,j,k,l,m,n, and o.
then the other guy has to give the same data on his car back to you.
put that into motion.

OR

you have car a.
he has car b.
all the data is already on your disc.
put that into motion.

just thinking about the sheer complexity of synchronizing that amount of data over a non-QOS internet link makes my head hurt. sometimes itunes can't even keep a simple radio station playing. how do you think that something as complex as neck-and-neck racing will deal with internet hiccups? lag = not happy users. lag at just the wrong time to a fanatically precise developer = they'll leave it out until everybody has an OC3 to their house.

yes, they have said that there will be online play. but i don't have a signed contract in my hands that says so, do you?

I really doubt they'll limit online play to arcade cars, that would be a huge mistake on PD's part IMO...

rsxboy you make a very valid point there, and you did go over points that I did look over, your right that if every player had there car tuned to the way they want and have all types of different mods then the game would take longer than it should loading each players setting and the way the car would behave say from another car that is the same but with a different setup. I agree that if there is online play then there is the strongest possibility that it will be arcade only.

But this doesnt really answer the question about cheating within the online mode, im sure if any do play online games over the PC that there are cheats/trainers that do work on multiplayer by editing the game. A person could still edit the game so that even the arcade cars have more power than they should do. lsk8er has a good point about limiting the horse power of the cars to limit to what can enter.

Good points 👍

Well, Auto Modellista is fully capable of transmitting modification, body mod, paint, and sticker, including placement, and full custom sticker, data. I htink GT4 should be able to transmit its car data.

Yes, there are ways to stop this. Like putting HP limits on an online race (like somebody else mentioned). Also, they could problably only limit cars in class A,B,S, etc. So you can't select cars from your garage (like in an iLink battle).

GT3 could handle i-link raceas using car garages, PD didn't have the time to include that feature, online play shouldn't give PD many problems with states of car tune and settings, remeber that all PD need to do is inout the stats of the car and the game enguine works out how it will handle, it's that accurate so all the info that would need to be uploaded are the stats for the car and the engine works the rest out automatically.

Im pretty sure in GT3 arcade mode if you pull a hybrid out of your garage with say 6,000 HP it'll take it down under 1,000 not sure about the reasoning behind the reduction though. Another possibility is a feature that detects gameshark use, I have no earthly idea how that works, but something that can detect cheating is going to be used in SOCOM II online play.

It GT3's arcade mode, the power shown for the caqrs is always what the car originally had, so a fully tuned Skyline will seem to have 276Bhp, when you race though the car is still fully tuned, just a flaw that PD mustn't have noticed.

It will be a HUGE bummer, if we can't use tuned cars online. I've seen a video feature on the US OPM demo disc, in which they state that online mode is an "enhanced arcade mode". Still, in the GT3 arcade mode we could use tuned cars, so hopefully it will be the same for this new mode.
