This could be the biggest development in the history of motorsports since, well, ever! Just look at all the big names involved in the announcement!
Also, even if you don't happen to be a fan of Peter DeLorenzo or Autoextremist.com, you've gotta give him credit for not only having this idea, but putting forth all the time and effort to make it a reality, as well.

And what makes him think it'll take off? Cars aren't loud, might be fast, probably not as fast as comparable autos. Finding sponsors and funders shall be difficult. Passion associated with normal auto racing? doubtufully there. They're electric cars (snooze) making only 400hp. (less than most big name motorsports.) It has about as much chance of getting past the experimental stage as Burt Rutan's Rocket Racers. I give it one cable-televised auto race, before fading into obscurity.

On the other hand, if a hydrogen-powered Electric-drive car, say, won Le Mans outright, then they'd make a REAL point about Hydro-electric auto racing.
