Hydropneumatic suspension

Maybe a stupid question...but what happens when you uptune the suspension on cars that originally have a hydropneumatic suspension, like the Citroen BX or the DS, to a street, sport or racing suspension ?
Will they keep their hydropneumatic suspensions systems or will they get conventional suspensions instead ?

I would like to know this aswel. Does the citroèn ds also feature this? And is that the stock suspension? Or is it all across every version of the suspension?
