something that i have thought alot about today is the "Hype" thats going on for GT5 iam a huge fan of the series since GT2 back in 2000 but I cant remember any hype for the previous games :P, I do admitt iam most probably wrong as i had no internet at home until 2005. But prior to the launch of 4 I heard people talking about it but no where to how much they are now and I only started getting into the game about 10months prior to the australian 05 launch.
With GT3 I never heard a word until 2001 when my cousin came over and said "My mate got a ps2 and has Gt3 on it".
With GT2 dont even ask i was only 8 :P
and GT1 never played the game.
But how was he hype, id really like to get into a discussion about this.

I know I was hyped to the point all I could think about for a whole year was GT4. I didn't have a GTP account back then so I don't now about others. I played and owned GT1 and GT2 but only after they were released so I can't really talk the hype. (that and the fact I was just a kid who loved realistic racing games back then). I saved up and bought a PS2 with GT3 but again it was already released so I can't talk about the hype.

With this and other forums, we are going to be more and more sick with every new GT game is in production, as we create wishlists, opinions and many other discussions. PD is now deadly silent and that's really bad for our nerves and really good for hype and PD.

There's been a fair amount of hype for all of them, apart from maybe the original game and the smaller ones such as GT4P and Concept. I used to get PlayStation and PS2 magazines and they always did half a dozen features on the games before they were even released.

If anything, GT5 is getting less hype than I remember GT3 did, or "GT2000" as it was known before release. GT5 is only really getting majorly hyped on fansites such as this one.

I think the level of hype is exasperated by web forums like this one. Before forums became so popular, hype was built up by the media (PS magazines) as this is a mostly one-way information thread, it's less likely to whip-up the kind of frenzy that you get with a forum full of fans. I get just as excited by the prospect of GT5 as i did for the release of GT2. The only difference now is that i have somewhere to vent my speculation rather than keeping it in my head or between the odd friend or two who may of had an interest.

I think its all down to the internet.

For 2, 3 and 4 I was really excited but there was nowhere near the same coverage.

In some ways I feel this has taken away from some games for me as there is little to surprise nowadays. At the same time most GT5 "news" we hear is speculation as PD are one of the ones that keeps their cards to their chests. A policy that apparently annoys many but does keep me happy.

As far as I remember there was huge hype for all the games I remember having a cd with a non playable demo of gt1.

I was excited for GT1 after I saw a 'photo-realistic' in-game screenshot in a Playstation magazine! The only one I was never hyped for and didn't even buy was GT4. Not sure why - I may have been consumed with PC gaming at the time...

GT5 is the big one for me. I think I have realistic expectations but still can't wait for online racing improvements, more cars, more tracks and car tuning. The rest would be a bonus (damage, pit-stops, qualifying, weather, day/night etc.!).

I'm not really hyped for other games - I think I'm too old now! I used to get very excited for new games but I think I've experienced enough hype to (sub-conciously) realise it's not worth getting too caught up in it all. Even the big PS3 games like Killzone 2. I'm looking forwards to Uncharted 2 the most and may get a bit excited about that as it nears...!

Hype is the reason I visit this forum everyday....and of course having good discussions with people since many other forums I go to, people are.....well not as cool, I'll keep it with those words :sly: Everyone here is pretty laid back and friendly.

But yeah as far as hype goes....it drives me nuts that I haven't heard a bit of GT5 news in probably 2 months, but at the same time, it does keep things exciting, and when some info is finally released...people go crazy...like me :p
