It is quite annoying that the AI cars are always trying to brake/stop at corner exit.

In those short distance tracks, such as London in British Lightweights, Suzuka East in Japanese Classics, or Clubman SS5, Eiger Short Track etc, the delay (I try not to collide with them) costs my time a lot.

And many times, the AI car is not fighting for the position, are we in a race? Why are you letting me pass, we are in the same lap.

In endurance races, spotted easily in Tsukuba 9 hours, they will sometimes move to left, sometimes right or don't move to let me pass, it is so unpredictable.

Yes, I am quicker than you, but we are in a race (even you are set to strong)

Well there's only so much you can program into artificial intelligence. Think about what you're asking it to do... you're asking it to behave like a human. I don't know what the limits of a.i are right now but I imagine it will be a while until we have perfect a.i.

Exactly, it's a machine! As a software programmer myself, let me show you a little snip it of what the AI needs to think about every second:

~ Gas, do I have enough for another lap? If yes, go on, if no, pit.
~ Tires, are they good enough for another lap? If yes, go on, if no, pit.
~ Are there any cars around me? If yes, input their locations into my driving line. If no, continue on my ideal driving line.
~ When do I have to brake to make that turn safely?
~ What if the car in front of me brakes early?
~ Can I utilize any slip streaming right now?

And probably 500+ more. Remember, it has to compute this in real time WHILE rendering amazing graphics.

Online vs REAL racers = solution

Online vs REAL racers = solution

So instead of AI racers who don't make sense you get human racers who make even less sense :dunce:

that's actually the solution, but make sure you race with people who you know will be for real.

You can tell when this setup fails because th AI get into a massive crash, or spin out, or run you off the road, etc.

I love it when an a.i car spins out infront of me... a spec rwd championship, just wait for everyone to crash : D

RUF Yellowbird championship.

Im a developer too... Lets put it this way... beyond AI even on another segment that the developers had to work with... Physics...

So for a few weeks I have been wanting to write a calculator to build the suspension setting for you... well... in research there are MANY calculations that the main calculation (algorithm) would have to have...

Curb weight and front-rear balance converted to corner wight
Suspension type (double wishbone, fixed, etc..)
ride height (this changes TONS of properties)
Spring Rate (though this is a result it requires some other calculations)

and each of though that only seems like a few things, those items are upwards of 15 different complex calculations that are dependent on each other...

Thats physics... then design... every tried making a 3D object yourself? HOURS!!! Then like the quoted comment said, the AI has to make dozens of decisions a second...

Yeah the AI isnt that great and often just gets in your way but its more stable that many of the Online Open Lobbies with real drivers I have seen... Also keep in mind "Bob" does dumb stuff too! And Bob is another AI that needs programming...

Then all of this has to happen with 512 and 256 MB of memory (obsolete!)

Enjoy it for what it is and appreciate the product that these developers have done for us (I sure as heck couldnt do this... nor can any one of you by yourselves...)

The only block you once per sector.
So if you go from left to right they won't block you but rather got back to the ideal line.
Constant blocking in one straight is frown upon on racing.

+1 👍

Gotta agree with that. But I still think the AI brake in unreasonable places occasionally. I have also came up with a few more things AI have to think about every second:

~ Accelerator input - Will I cause a spin if I provide more than XX% throttle?
~ Brake input - Will I slow down too much if I provide more than XX% braking?
~ Accident Prevention - What should I do in the event of some idiot (presumably the human player driving in a very silly and reckless manner) tries to ram me off the road?
~ Steering input - What is the bare minimum I have to turn the steering wheel and still make it safely around the corner?

And it's not just the AI that think about this every second of each race. Us humans do this too, whether we're on the race track or cruising down the street :dopey:👍 .

I don't, I just crash :guilty:

This is not true. If you didn't even make basic decisions when driving, you wouldn't know how much to turn the steering wheel, when to accelerate and when to brake.

What is true is that some of us are better at decision making than others. We even make decisions everyday. Here are some of them:

*You wake up from your sleep*

- Should I get up or should I stay in my bed for a while?
- If I do get up, should I have breakfast or do something else?
- Should I play GT5 today? Or maybe I should play something else?
- Or maybe I shouldn't play at all...

You even made a decision to write your most recent message. I made a decision to write a reply. Most of the time we make decisions without even knowing.

:gtpflag:

It feels like to me that there is a direct connection between the AI's comfort level and the car or lap time you are driving. You have to find the sweet spot where the AI lives to get the most out of it. You do this by adjusting pp until you only have barely enough car to complete and win the challenge. Obviously, it's different for everyone, but it works. Of course the AI can not cope or decide what to do if your driving at completely different levels. It takes a lot of restarted races, but I always manage to find that sweet spot where the AI is not overwhelmed and starts fighting back and or responding appropriately.

To sum all that up, you just need to use the same or similar cars to what the AI players are using 👍 .

They just cruise through the track. Passing them is very easy (Unless they're driving X11s and you are driving a Fiat 500:lol:).
They're plain stupid.

Only solution is to use a considerably slower car then the AI will be using.

Hate to admit this but, Forza 3&4 AI are pretty top notch. They fight you for position, scrap and throw you around if you get in their way and don't slow down when you try to overtake them.

And no, I'm not a fanboy.

Have to agree with this. I tried Forza 3 and even found it annoying to beat the AI. But if you want a challenge in GT5 then there is always online gameplay :) .
