The 4th of July is over.

Before you get your flamethrowers out, hear me out.
I love America. I love what we as a people stand for.
I'm just not too fond of explosions. I've seen, or caused too many of them in my life. (I was on the last US ship to fire on Beirut, 1984)
Each explosion makes me cringe just a bit as I remember...

All I can think of when stuff is exploding is all the times I've served on "Honor Gaurd" for the other brave men and women who've died in the line of duty.
I hear every 21-gun salute I've every fired.

I remember that men and women have died for us to have the freedoms that we have, and sometimes take for granted.
If you know a veteran, give them a hug, and thank them for their sacrifice. Then do it again on Veteran's day. Repeat yet again on Memorial Day.
The explosions are over for another year. The kind of people that fought for our freedom, and fight for it still, are right here among us. Give them the props they deserve.

Always, Gil. Always.

By all means. I don't really like the fireworks anyway. Sure they're pretty and all, but they're too loud for my liking (when they fire them across the street from me, it sounds like lightning is hitting there every few seconds; and I've had a really bad experience with thunder storms...)
