Hi and well done it’s a beautiful machine. I too have driven the 350Z with my wife in it and we have also fallen in love with car. All I can say is that you have great taste the funny thing is I currently own a Mazda 3 sport and enjoy the car but if I was to up grade I would seriously look at the Nissan GTR. The house thing will come in time at least you know how to spoil yourself because life is too short to focus on the serious stuff. My two pennies worth.

Enjoy the car I’m sure it puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.

I see heaps - but that's cause I go past a Nissan dealer which has heaps of them and a few GTRs aswell (currently have 4 in stock from last check) on my school run.

Nice car! The black looks great and it really brightens up the wheels. I hope I'll be able to spoil myself like that one day. 👍

Still, a pretty nice ride. I wish my friend still worked at the local Nissan dealer, I really want to see how the rev-match system works.
 
In typical Japanese fashion, the synchro-rev does it better than you ever could. Much in the way a driver isn't really necessary in the GT-R, a clutch pedal isn't really necessary in the Z. They only included it to see if you can best their computer ;).

I'm pretty sure the computer looks at the speed you're going, looks at what gear your about to engage, and gives the correct revs. It doesn't wait for the gear to actually be engaged before it revs, so it appears there are some electro-switches in the gearshift that trip the system. It's fun to play with, but really shows how sad my heel-toe skills are :).
 
My heel-toe abilities are almost non-existent in the Celica. But, that's why the Nissan intrigues me so much with it. It just makes sense, and should it be something reliable, it saves on wear and tear as well. I love it. It does make me wonder if Toyota will do something similar on the Toyobaru?

What's the fuel mileage looking like so far?
 
It's definitely a cool feature, and will probably save a few trannys from people who don't downshift properly.

Fuel mileage? Not sure yet, as I haven't filled up yet. It has a 19-gallon tank, so it has good range. So far, the mileage doesn't look too shabby at all for the amount of power.

I always wondered what does it do if you skip downshift from say 4th to 2nd (within safe limits obviously), does it get confused and revs to a level as it would for 3rd or does it sense when you go for second and ups the revs even more to suit 2nd before you release the clutch?
 
Looks like it could use less interior and more roll cage. Some R-comps, a big wing, and the usual time attack treatment.

Right? I mean, the 3 is the GG afterall...

It senses everything as it should. Clarkson did the same thing, down shifting from 4th to 2nd, and when doing so, there was about a 2 second pause before the downshift with the engine matching the revs.

If the circles are where the gear engages, the red dots are where the computer "knows" what gear you want (this is also the point where the digital gear indicator on the tach changes). If you downshift from 5th to 2nd, it matches revs to 2nd. It doesn't assume you're going from 5th to 4th.
 
So it actually doesn't mind being shifted without the clutch? I wouldn't make much habit out of taking it out of gear without it, as there's always going to be wear right there. Maybe do: clutch in, lever to middle position, clutch out, lever to next gear. That's assuming the engine gets to the right RPM quickly enough to not grind anyway.

No, you definitely need the clutch...it's just that the technology is moving towards the semi-automatic gearbox that dominates the market.

Yes, and the owner's manual calls for a 1,200 mile break-in :(.

Sounds like a NISMO Z. I've seen a few of the 370 NISMOs around and they look awesome.

That honestly factored into my decision to buy now. It would have been smarter to wait 10 years or so, but who knows where cars are headed. I want to enjoy at least one fuel-belching beast :)

Filled up this evening, and on my first tank, I got 350 miles from 13.2 gallons, or ~26 mpg overall (not a whole lot of "city" driving, though). An hour of freeway driving at 65 mph yielded 29.6 mpg. Granted, I'm not pushing it much, but I can live with those numbers.

Hope you didn't use up your downpayment for the house to buy the car. haha!
 
If you wait to see whats coming next you will never get anywhere, it's like a gambler that never knows when to cut his losses or stop while he/she is winning.

Your timing is great, assuming there isn't any major "new model gremlins" as some models get in the first batches. Every report is showing great results for the 370Z, not some fat facelift like other new models end up being.

In order for the Z to make an appearance at an SFGTP meet, it has to be held between June and August (Z-approved weather :p).
 
Of course, do what the manual says regaurding the 1200 mile break-in.

However,
I've read that with modern metallurgy, cylinder honing and crosshatching techniques that a 'break in' should no longer be of the feather-on-the-gas technique - That it can actually lead to a 'loose' engine down the road.

What I've read says, in a nutshell, that to get the best effects of modern crosshatching on the cylinder walls you want to really force the rings against them - This means some mid-highish rpm quick acceleration and deceleration, moderate engine braking, and generally attempting to load the engine as many times as possible.
[All at full operating temperature, of course].

Right. The way I interpret "break-in period" is to not push the car to extremes, i.e. no dragstrip night or cross-country road trip in the first 1000 miles. Of course, I have no idea what people did during the 30 miles of test-drives that took place before I bought it :).
