Picture this in your minds eye- My 50th birthday is happening soon and I know that the wife has got my son a ps3 via santa claus( he is nearly 8 yr old and its next door in a spare room hidden), now I suggested to her that I would like gt5 which I know is there as well and so every day I come on here and drool at you lot as you discuss all sorts of stuff. But what I want to know is when I connect it up and configure it to my wireless router will it automatically update the game so that I can play the game at its most up to date status. ( I have not played a ps3 before so I want it to be a smooth and easy install). cheers guys n gals for any response.
 
you first have to set up the network configuration and then it will update the ps3 and then the game once you start it.
 
Follow on screen instructions and be patient, there will be a lot of configuring, updating and installing to do because it is the first time the PS3 has been booted up.. Same for Gran Turismo 5.
 
As soon as you have internet on ur PS3, a PSN account created and you are connected, PS3 firmware will update to the latest one, and its the same for games, every time You choose to play itll check for the latest patches, and download it.

Its cake, You and him will be playing in no time. And he will love Santa Forever lol !
 
Thanks guys for input, I was in Tesco this morning and spied gt5 prologue selling for £15, and I very nearly bought it with a view to tryin it on the boys ps3 when he is at school, but I thought better of it as I have to keep it hidden for Santa coming.
 
Sneak the PS3 out of it's hiding spot in advance, unpack it as neatly as possible, plug in and configure/update then repackage it. Learn to feign surprise when the present is 'magically' already set-up (isn't technology amazing!), get to play straight away ;)
 
Just pray your router doesn't act like mine and gets all pissy about the ps3 being on the network, otherwise it is pretty face roll.

Perhaps you should ask santa to get you a steering wheel.

Lol my parents did this a lot with my PS2 but that was more cause my dad wanted to play GT3 xD (i remember sleeping and faintly hearing the PS2 boot up sounds when i was sleeping sometimes lmao).

But would save hassle on Christmas day aswell :P
 
I pre updated my boys' PS3 for their christmas present. They never noticed, but it saved a lot of messing around with a PS3 while 2 young boys wait impatiently to play lego star wars.
 
Actually, you can go to PlayStation web site and download the update on to a computer. Then put it on a USB stick (PS3\UPDATE\ folder I think) and stick it in the PS3 onces it powers up. That way, you avoid the long download time and uncertainty in getting the network set up.

PS: Sorry, didn't realize you were talking about GT5 update. The above is for firmware update, which you also need.

Never mind Tomazagato - not long till xmas now - make sure your son has 'another' toy to play with so you can 'test' out the ps3 to see if it is working properly (might require at least a weeks testing though so tell him to be patient) !! :-)

Only a Week :crazy:

I've been testing my PS3 since GT5 got released for 15 Hours a Day and now i'm in the B-Spec Endurance Races it'll be on 24/7 👍

Might be best to buy another PS3 for the kiddie as GT5 is flipping Addictive :lol:

I agree - will never get these websites finished at this rate, just one more race!!
