I have no idea what I should do, I can't get anywhere on the X1 Challenge as I'm not fast enough and based on what other people are saying, I shouldn't attempt Suzuka 1000 KM with my FGT in B-Spec because it takes too long. What am I supposed to do then?

I am 29 in A-Spec and 30 in B-Spec but because I can't do the X1 Challenge I am in a very undesirable position.

Take a break from GT5 and let your B-Spec guy go to work. You'll get the X1 for free when he hits 35. That's what I'm working on now.

That's what I'm doing right now, running the FGT at Suzuka and then Indy all day. Its just I feel inferior for not being able to do the X1 challenge.

B spec Suzuka 1000 KM. Set it up and walk away. Sure it takes some time but it gives you a chance to do other things.

I also failed miserably at the X1 challenge...I think I will get over it when I get that free car @ 35 :)

What's annoying me most is that it will take forever, and I was using my PS3 to finish up Lost on Netflix before GT5 came out lol.

The X1 challenge is not easy so don't feel bad. Two of my friends have attempted it and neither have managed to pull it off yet and they are both decent drivers and both use a wheel one using the DFGT the other using the PWTS. I did manage to do it but it took several tries.

Someone online told me that based on my driving, a wheel would allow me to smoke anyone as I finished 7 seconds behind them using a DS3 on the 'Ring. The only issue is that the cheapest set-up is $250. (Wheel + seat + mount).

The learning cruve can be steep with a wheel especially if you go with a cheap one. Also don't be fooled some people are very fast with a controller as well. I know I am but I do use a wheel now. I can still grab a controller and turn some very good lap times on the ring as well as most other tracks.

I can turn decent laps at the Ring, but none without some aids.

What kind if times and what kind of car? As for Aides, some people make way to big a deal about driving aides. TCS and ABS are standard on many real cars even ASM comes on some of them now.

I have seen lots of people dis others for using TCS or ABS while they use the driving line :) TCS will slow you down a little but it can save you from a crash as well. I think it is up to the driver. Sometimes I use it sometimes I don't.

Yeah X1 challange is hard... Wheel helps more than ever...
Mybe your setup wasn't good - I used ABS-2, Skid Recovery-ON and Manual Gears...

Got Bronze on all, then tried Monza again and got Gold... Finally there's a challange that splits the boys from the men OR people using DS3 controllers and steering wheels :indiff:

Well none I can remember specifically for the cars since my head doesn't want to think right now.

For the X1 events I can't turn a lap better than 1:09.xxx on the Ring or 1:08:xxx on Monza.

I think grinding for the X1 is a good option with b-spec.

I play with a DS3, and would hate the idea of not being able to obtain the X1 because i dont have a wheel.
Menaged to get monza silver with my DS3, Suzuka i was about 10 seconds off from bronze, but nurburgring was just impossible. My fastest laps allways turned out to be a disqualification since pressing left, right on a DS3 kills the X1. And when i wasnt pushing the car i came 14-20seconds behind bronze.

So impossible to me.

But then again, the X1 is not my absolute goal in this game. I want a nice selection of cars from all years and types. And i find that driving online with older cars is fun as well.

The X1 is just the speeding bullet option to complete the game faster. I'm over 95% done with the game otherwise. I remember that it took me over 4 years to get the FGT (the similar kill-switch car) in GT4, partially because I didn't want to do the 24 hour race on the PS2 (which went kaput and I did it on a PS3 anyways).

The X1 just seems too wild for me, I can't even find a proper line.

On Monza you can cut the second chicane... cuts the laptime by few seconds...

First lap: 1:03.8
Second Lap: 0:59.0

Got Gold by over 0.2seconds :D

The X1 is the easiest car to drive in the game. You just have to adjust to the insane speed.

The challenge is not easy of course...I got bronze on Monza, I'm about to do it on Suzuka too.

And if I feel it's to hard I'll switch on skid recovery.

But I'm not a good driver at all, so if I can do it, everyone can.

I tried that, no dice whatsoever

100%? Feeling as if you actually won the car?

Pretty much this. The feeling of accomplishment to me is everything in this game. I have a friend who keeps doing the birthday car and save file exploits. He is happy now, but I can already tell he regrets it. In a game like GT, or any racing game, really, accomplishment is everything.

PS - I am not trying to compare you to someone who exploits, I just think the feeling is similar, at least to me. Sure, getting it for free is one thing, but earning, and knowing how hard you worked is another. :D

Wouldn't have thought you where but thanks for adding that in :)

I must say we do have to work hard in B-Spec, especially at the beginning, and with all the time that we invest into B-Spec, at times, I get the same satisfaction as I get from A Spec, you know in those hard fought races etc.

So I think receiving the X1 for Level 35 B Spec is well justified. I probably will only use the X1 for Indy 500 Endurances, but for nothing else, just can't be bothered with it, there is no challenge in GT5 A / B Spec so why would I make it even easier by using the X1?

^I completely disagree. Reaching level 35 in B spec is cake, just takes time. I'm currently level 37, and with the exception of a couple earlier races, it was just a matter of giving him a fast enough car and letting him go. The X1 should have been the reward for the 24H Nurburgring in B Spec, if anything.
Whats the point in doing the Red Bull Challenge if you get given the car in B-Spec anyway?

TONS of experience. I unlocked it by getting level 30 in B Spec, and getting just one bronze took me from level 21 to 24 in A Spec. I eventually bronzed them all (which got me to 28, I think), and now am going back for golds. Golded Monza (With 1.3 sec to spare!) and jumped from 30 to 32. Suzuka is next on the list (not an easy one...). The X1 takes a lot of time to get used to before you can really focus on getting your lap times down. I spent about 3 hours on Monza before I got bronze just because I had to relearn the corners at X1 speeds. It seemed impossible from looking at videos and first trying it, but by the time I was shooting for gold, I would pass the ghost car on turn 6 (right after the second chicane). You just have to get REALLY aggressive with late braking, quick turning, and staying on the throttle.

Oh great, another small minded person.

It is alright saying it is cake doing B-Spec but there are people that find it difficult to do (beleive it or not) so for them getting the X1 would be an achievement and they would feel a sense of achievement. Plus I do think that it is a nice reward considering we have to abandon being able to actually play the game just so the AI can drive itself around the track.

When I first started reading your reply I thought to myself, "Alright, I didn't know people saw B-Spec as a challenge, so maybe he has a point. I shall go forth with a different understanding of the game."

Then, however you said the part that I put in bold up above, and almost completely reversed my new way of thinking. Sorry, but I refuse to view B-Spec driving as some kind of martyrdom.

Which is exactly the reason why I want to do the challenge and not have to resort to running B-Spec till lvl 35 just to drive the car.

I want to actually earn the car by hard work not by Rusty Wallace's, Davey Allison's or David Pearson's (my famous NASCAR Bob's) work

Yeah!!! Golded the Challange... (I only unlocked it yesterday evening)

Loving my X2010's

I am going to dupe all my X2010's so I have 2 of each (one with 0miles and other for racing)... After getting gold on all I think I have the right to do anything I want with them...

Not going to trade them tho...

 Achievement? Bob sucks and there's no skill involved in improving him. You either give him an overpowered car and win, or give him a slightly overpowered car and cross your fingers. Early on you'll have to hit the pace up button occasionally to keep him from dozing off, but I wouldn't call keeping a pulse an achievement. Comparing grinding by occasionally pressing a single button to perfecting 1 minute laps on 2 minute courses is giving yourself a bit too much credit...

True, the real achievement is when you get that Gold on those 3 tracks... then you feel amazing... Carbon X2010...
