And all I have to say is wow. WOW. If you don't like these or are prejudice against them then this thread is not for you. 
I was at my annual NTTGA (North Texas Third Gen) BBQ which usually attracts all sorts of other vehicles and this gold Fiero rolls up and I'm thinking it had a swap done on it by the way it sounded.
WRONG.
Race exhaust, sport suspension, no cat and a good intake made this sound like a freaking high revving V8 but with a rumble as well. I made my rounds looking at all the Fbodies and such then decided to find the owner of the Fiero. We talked for a bit--learned some new things about them. I've always wanted one and I've always wanted to drive one--even stock. This guy has four--this gold one is an '86 (which I guessed the year) SE model and only has 35,000 original miles. He is the second owner. So this was an opportunity to see one in mint condition in the wild. He started it up again and revved it a bit, it was just brilliant beyond words. I told him that I've never driven one and he throws me the keys and says "lets take him out!" and I'm like omgomgomgomgomg. Seriously I felt like an 8-yearold kid--and I told him that. Its pretty quick actually and handles like its on rails--stepping the rear out is difficult actually. I asked him how much "free reign" I had and he responded with an enthusiastic "have fun with it". I oblidged naturally. I surprised him a bit when I drove it because I had no trouble with the fact that its a heavy clutch and there is no power steering. He commented, "wow I was going to tell you about the heavy clutch and lack of power steering but you aren't having any trouble at all". 
It churped going into second and then seemed to just thrust through the rest of the gears. It definately has some pickup to it. I forgot for a minute that it was a 4spd manual and as I'm reaching what would be 5th gear speeds I put it in third and was like "oh ****!". 
I drove it like I stole it and the owner had a smile on his face the whole time--as did I. I haven't had this much fun in a car is a very long time. I walked away from this experience a VERY happy man. And there is no question that I absolutely want one of these so very badly. Plus with the information this guy provided about the models I know what to look for. He has a restoration shop so he's pretty knowledgable about car as well--oh and I didn't mention this until now but he has owned 25 of them since 1984...TWENTY FIVE.
