Yeah, just in case you'd like to pretend you care about my life, you can reply with something like, "That's so great! I love you! Party! Whooo!" or you can do nothing. Your choice.

Seriously though, I'm pretty excited, because I hate these things with a passion, and having them off will feel great. But then there's the retainer...ughhh. :indiff:

Don't get your hopes up too much. Quite often they will say, "another month just to be sure" It happened to alot of my friends.

hey congrats dude! i hated my braces, but luckily i only had them for 18months!!! muwhahahaha! but wear your retainers! or your teeth will be crooked again in about 6 months! trust me! i never ever wore mine and now i still have two or three slightly out-of-place teeth 👎

Tell me about it. "Another Month" or "Just a little while longer" turned out to be an extra 2 years.

Congrats, Kosmik! It feels great to have them off. I wore my retainer for a week. Now I just sometimes where it at night. 👍

Yup. My daughter got her braces off last month, and in the week between the impressions and when the retainers came back from the lab, her upper back teeth had moved. They had to remake the top half of both sets of retainers. Wear the retainer just like they tell you to, or you'll be back in braces later.

Good luck! And don't forget to floss now that your teeth are de-fenced.

Ahh, the feeling of losing the braces. Truly a special moment, especially because of the foods you can now eat. I suggest you celebrate by chewing a pack of gun, and by going out for a steak dinner :D

And trust me, the retainer is not a very big deal at all compared to braces. It's removable at least.

And do follow Duke's advice, floss. I have never been able to get myself into the habit, and everytime I visit the dentist's, my gums are very sore due to the cleaning they give.

my mom works in orthodontics.

dont f around with your retainer....cuz if you dont wear it and stuff, your teeth might shift and all your braces days will be worth nothing.

:)

I got mine off a couple years ago and I'll have to give you the same advice as everyone else. Wear the damn retainer! Besides, you'll notice if you haven't been wearing it, and it doesn't feel too good, either.

When I got mine off, I wore the retainer for 2 days and then never wore it again.

i got my braces off just this past thursday. no retainer yet, i'm getting an invisalign retainer this coming up thursday.

I got my braces taken off May 31st of this year. When you get them taken off it's such a disgusting feeling because your teeth are so smooth and they feel dirty. I had mine on for like 4 and a half years, it was mostly my fault because I never wore my elastics, and like the last month the orthodontist said to wear my elastics 24/7 everyday for a month if I wanted to get them off, but I only wore them at night, and come the day to get them off my teeth were straight. I was also surprised I didn't have any stains either.

Bah, I have a retainer im supposed to wear that like every night but i wear it 3 or 4 times a week. They also put these like wire sort of thingys that they glued onto the back of my teeth to keep them from shifting. I can either keep them on until im 18 or i can leave them on for the rest of my life, so I think thats something I'll, they dont bother me and theyll keep my teeth from shifting

I'm gonna be negative..Lucky Git!!! I'm getting mine out end of month. Just before I go back for YR10.

How long did you have them altogether? I've had mine now about 18months.

I ate steak with mine. Though it was a bugger when you were in a restaurant and some got stuck.

I'm getting braces hopefully this year or next year. I want my top teeth fixed!
I felt the same. As much as I didn't want them, I knew the sooner I got them the better.

Ewww, you're supposed to floss even with braces on! ;) (I can easily do it without using a threader... I'll admit that I only floss every-other day though.)

Congratulations!!! Make sure you always wear your retainer!!!!! If you are lucky mabey you will get a clear one like I had. :sly:

And if you're even luckier you won't "thsound thoo mucth like thisth when you thspeak."

I have to say I didn't mind having braces one bit, 65% of my classmates at the time had them too anyway. I only disliked the experience when the wires would poke me way at the back of the mouth sometimes.
I can't remember now when they were taken off, but I'm sure it was a magical moment and all that.

Good for you, Kosmik. 👍

I know it's getting repetitive, but wear your retainers.

It's been a couple of years since I got my braces off and I still wear my retainers every night, most of the time anyway :). A friend of mine stopped wearing his after a month or so and now he has braces again!

Retainers. Retainers. Retainers. Wear them.

I'm on my Second phase of brace's, I guess I didn't wear my retrainer(or however you spell it) enough the first time.

Yeah, everybody else's grew on land.
;)

I still have a ways to go with braces (incidentally, my orthodontic appointment is tomorrow), but I at least got my expander off a month ago. Bloody annoying thing.

The expander?!

Is that the thing at the roof of your mouth attached to you left and right molars that you have to have tightened every day with a key?! That thing hurt like a ****ing bastard, and it put cuts all over my tongue.

I had to have four teeth removed, then I had that expander thingy, then I had my braces for a couple years, and then I wore my retainer for a couple weeks before I just gave up with them.

Yup, that's it. How the hell did you cut your tongue with it though? It didn't really hurt me for the most part, except there was one night where I actually felt it breaking apart my upper jaw (instead of it gradually breaking apart, it just did in one fell swoop about a week after I got it installed). That was terrible – I didn't get any sleep that night. Otherwise, it didn't particularly bother me, except for the dorky gap between my two front teeth that I had for a couple weeks.

I plan on wearing my retainer religiously. One of my friends has a pretty good strategy though – she'll occasionally check it by putting it in, and if it feels tight, then she wears it for 24 hours... if it's not tight, then she'll leave it off until she checks again (like once a week).

A thing attaches to your upper mouth!?

That sounds like it hurts!? Isn't that also the thing that requires screws to?

Exact same thing I did. ****ing expander hurt like a mother. So bad sometimes It would drive me to tears.

Why do you think they hate them?

Because they hurt like a *****.
