The company I currently work for has been really struggling recently and I have been looking for a new job since the begginning of the year.

I got a call from an agency on wednesday asking if I would be interested in an IT support role close to home. I told him I would so yesterday I had a telephone interview with the director.

He was very impressed and asked me for an interview first thing this morning.

After an hour and a half he had heard all he needed to hear and offered me the job on the spot!

Nicely done, Dunc! Congrats!

You're buying tonight, right?

Happy birthday

👍

I know it's not your birthday, but I imagine you'll get a lot of "well done", so I offer something different. Congrats on the job.

Well done, Congrats on the new job, I hope it works out well for you!!

Now if I can only find 'A' job. Michigan sucks!!

Congrats on the new job! It is always good to get a job you feel secure and confident in.

I wish I could get a new job. I've applied to like 20 places in the last 6 months and they don't even call back.
Call them after a few days and say you just wanted to make sure they got a chance to look at your application. Then they will dig it out of the trash and look at it.

It works for any level of job. When I applied for a movie theater job they were just taking applications but had no open positions. I called them after three days and said I had turned in an application and was curious if anything had opened up and if they had looked over my application. I was put on hold and after a few minutes the manager picked up and told me they had a position open up that morning and wanted to know if I could come in for an interview before he left that day.

When you call it says that you are serious about getting a job and not just putting applications in at every place you qualify for hoping to get something. It sends a message that you want THAT job, not just any job.

Of course, what kind of job, your qualifications, market conditions, etc can have an affect too, but you need to call them if they don't call you after 3-5 days. And when you call be ready possibly to answer interview style questions.

Exactly. I applied to a shop in the fall and called back a week later. He said the position had been filled, but said he really appreciated the call back, put my CV on the top of the pile and said if there was another opening I'd be the first to hear about it. Don't nag, but just remind them.

Well done Dunc, hope it goes how you hope it will and leads to bigger and better things. Well deserved I'm sure.
👍.

It's not that out of the ordinary, I've had 2 hour interviews in the past.

The job I have now was a 2-hour panel interview (6 people). The first job interview I had for a "real" job was 5 hours with 4 different people.

I went for interviews in the city for two companies this week.

One company interviewed me twice on consecutive days with different people. In the first interview I met two of the partners of the company and it was more an assessment of whether I was able to do the job and whether I would fit in with the team, and the second interview was with the lead front-end developer and another partner and was answering some questions that cropped up from the first interview and a sort of meet-the-team thing. I was there for a total of about 50 minutes to an hour over the two days.

The other company I met with the Digital Development Manager and, I believe, the lead front-end developer. We chatted for about 20 minutes, they told me about the company asked me a few standard questions, etc. Then I did a test for an hour, and that was that.

The next day I had offers from both. :D

Winner - Highest bidder!

Kidding, of course. Money isn't everything, as you all either know or will find out soon enough.

But it sure don't hurt none!

Being 30 years old, I've only had 3 interviews. Of those, 2 have resulted in jobs. The third was only going to be at Sears over Christmas while I was in college anyway, so I'm not terribly tore up about that one. Total interview time - around 2 hours.

i got a job 5 mins into the interview...and of all jobs the best...in a games shop...well paid to test games...best job ever

Good catch. 👍

An hour-and-a-half long interview, though? That seems steap.

A little. It went by quite quickly though.

They gave me 30-45 mins to complete a logic test.

I finished in 26 mins and scored 93%.

They were quite impressed! :)

I had to do some tests for my current job, it was a formality more than anything because I got offered the job before the interview and test but I did three tests one was logic one was maths and the other was memory. I had 20 mins for each test but there was 100 questions in each test so you didn't have a chance to finish any of them in the time given but that was deliberate.

i did 2 interviews to get my current job, managed to impress both times and got the job. Hell i dont think even i would of hired myself with the qualifications i had. However 14mths later im sure they are very happy they did (top salesman).

I guess its not always the qualifications but your attitude and work ethic. A lot of the times you can be taught and if your really willing to learn and to try then they will appreciate that.

Thanks all!

I read and signed the contract today, i'm going to drop it in Monday morning.

They've offered me a very nice package :)
