...and it's an Opel!

A 1971 1.9 litre Opel GT to be exact, and I got it for a really good deal, Free! It was sitting in my friends neighbours yard, and we went over there one day, and he offered it to me! It was delivered to my house today, with the help of my friends. It has very low miles for the year, only 67,000.

Here are some pics.

Only 67K Miles!

Flight of the Bumblebee...INTERIOR

1.9 litres of single-carb'd fury!

I haven't drivin it yet, but my friend assures me it runs good, apart from the fact the parking brake is the only way for it to stop. Also, I can't drive stick, yet. The body is ok, some rust, and the floorboards are pretty bad.

For free thats amazing, you're damn lucky to have that as your first car. A free good condition Opel GT!!! Hell even I don't have a car yet. I'm just driving my Dad's SUV.........

Wow. Been a lot of discussion recently on the Opel GT (appeared in "What did you see..." and "Questionable Mods..." threads), and now, we have a member who owns one.

Be sure to show more pictures soon.👍

Runs good but stops bad, eh? Sounds like it could use a little work, but if you paid nothing for it, you're already way ahead 👍.

That has got to be one of the more unique first cars I've seen. Congratulations!
Sounds like it needs a little bit of work, but you definitely had a good find, there.
More pics!!

Wow. You're seriously lucky to get it for free! I wouldn't mind that myself. ;)

Congrats!

Opel GT sure is a looker. I've always admired it's Toyota 2000GT-like styling. 👍

Sounds like a project car. I know someone who used to be into Opel GT, so I'll ask him about the parts situation(prices, availability). In fact, I thought his wife still has one.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I get a feeling that this is one of those "free" cars that end up costing you a lot of money(Toyotas, Opels, it doesn't matter). I think you should be geared up to save few bucks to get it running. ;)

i'm somewhat with a6m5 on the subject too, having gone through 5 cars in the past year i know cars are expendable (no, i didn't get in a single accident with any of them). drive it, part out the non essential stuff that is in good condition, take said money, and buy a cleaner example if the rust is that bad.

i don't follow my own advice though....so....cut those floorpans out and weld in some new bad mothers in there! atleast it will be a temporary solution.

Great first car mate 👍 - looks in fair condition too 👍

- shame about the '70s diarrhea-brown exterior paint 👎

Step 1: Rebuild the brake system. (No need to die in your first car.) :)
Step 2: Fix the floorboards. (Hepatitis doesn't taste good.)
Step 3: Mock your classmates for driving Ford Fiesta's. :)

Yeah, I know there will be need for some money to be put int oit, and i'm all for that, so don't thikn you were a jerk for saying it. :)

@ ToyoMatt, We don't have Ford Fiesta's here. :p

You do realize that you're probably the first American in a generation to have an Opel-badged automobile as a first car, right?

Congratulations...though you may have a money pit on your hands, it's a unique money pit, and a car that nobody else in your area will have. You'll also learn a lot about car repair and maintenance this way.

Awesome first car 👍 How you don't mind getting your hands dirty though.

G.T

Congrats!
It wouldn't past the MOT unless you ploughed alot of money into it.

Wow, thats going to get you some attention at car shows! That would be a good idea, seeing as that it is probably the only running Opel in the state of Conneticut....

Congrats!

Very nice! Excellent, interesting car to start with. Take your time, get in contact with the online Opel community, and fix it up. And with 67,000 miles (and free!), you're ahead of the game for a project car.
👍
Very very nice.

More pics!

JDM Sleepy Eyes. Lol.

The Wooden Wheel.

Apparently, these wheels are pretty rare.

Is this A/C?

What's that button on th floor for?

That's gotta be bad. (Passanger floorboard.)

Shrunk/Cracked Dashboard.

I see ground, lol.

I'm thinking that button on the floor might be the high beams, but I'm not too sure.
