I've had my PS2 fo a little ova 2 years or sumthin and about 4 months ago it started to have those fukn' disc read errors. I fixed them and then like 2 months ago it started again and i fixed it again. but tonight it finally died (it don't play DVDs no more):banghead: I spent like 3 hours tryn' to fix it but no luck:banghead: :banghead: so i got to buy a new one.
this time i'm goin to get da extended service plan and all that ****.
my question is should i get tha PS2 like next week or sumthin, or should i wait a month or 2 (fo like a price drop or improvements) i know that da Japanese PS2 is getn' a whole lot of upgrades to it but i don't know about the us version.
so what should i do?

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:    :irked: :irked: :irked: :( :( :( :(

I would get it next week, the only problem i heard with disc read errors were on launch date era PS2's so i imagine they have fix a few bugs since then ;)

yeah, but the upgraded PS2s should be coming out here pretty soon since they came out last week in Japan. Only thing is that they no longer have the i-link

It depends on how badly you need the PS2. Sony dropped the price of the PS2 and the current price is $179.99 in America. But Sony will release the newer models later on in the year and those will be going for $200.

i can wait another month that's about it. my ps2 is the "brains" of my entire home thearter system in my room (CD player, DVD player, ect, not just fo games):banghead:
so the question is when will sony release da upgraded PS2 in the u.s.?

Here's a quote, from IGN, about the release. If you don't want to read then the new PS2 will come out in June 2003 for $200.

Sony Computer Entertainment America today announced it plans to deliver a major upgrade in PS2 hardware with what it's calling the PS2 Online Pack, a bundled PS2 with the Network Adaptor, plus additional PS2 hardware upgrades, for the same price as the PS2, $199.99.

At SCEA's press conference, SCEA President Kaz Hirai announced SCEA will sell two PS2 sets: A standard, upgraded PS2 (with the usual additions -- controller, cables, etc.) for $199.99; and the second, more substantial announcement, which features a bundled PS2 unit, plus the hardware upgrades and a Network Adaptor for the same price, $199.99. The bundle will be available in North America in June 2003.

As a sidenote, IGN reported that Sony Japan already had announced these same specs and additions for the Japanese model (SPCH-50,000). The new PS2 is also slightly lighter in weight, though it retains the exact same shape and dimensions of the original PS2.

The multiple hardware upgrades are eager anticipated. From June 2003 and into the future (in either PS2 package) the PS2 will feature a built-in IR (infra-red) receiver (eliminating the need for a memory-card plug-in) and new DVD functionality.

Gamers can view discs with recorded or edited content by DVD recorders; they can playback recordable DVD media (DVD-R/RW+R/RW), and they can view high-resolution images with DVD progressive scan playback capabilities. Additionally, due to the large overall complaints about the PS2's loud fan sounds, SCE has reduced the fans noise by 30 decibels.

We'll have more on SCEA's PS2 Online Pack and the hardware additions in the near future.

Did you try opening up your PS2, and cleaing the lens? I have a crapy old PS2 and I have to do that like once a month but it keeps it running. If you dont know how, just open up the main case and take of the cover off the cd holder and take a Q-tip with rubbing alcohal and rub it in a circular motion for about 30 seconds, let it dry then put it all back together. Make sure you dont touch the lens with ur finger or anything though.
