I guess I was wrong on this

I always complained under my breath about the lack of wastegate/blow off valve sounds in gran turismo 4... but once I started testing a lot of my cars like:

Toyota Supra RZ and
Toyota Celica GT-Four and
the Mine's Lancer Evo VI

I found that they have amazing bov sounds.. sure, you have to turn the volume up on the television and be on First-Person View and listen but theyre there. I especially liked the Supra BOV sound.

I dont know, their probabably a lot more cars with great blow off valve sounds but I'm too lazy to test all my 500 cars in my garage  so im just going to assume I was just wrong on the lack of BOV sounds in the game...

Also I have a question... Does the sound of the blow off valve depend on the company you buy the turbo from? Cuz it always seems to me like the HKS turbos I buy are always a lot louder then Tom's or Trial.. but maybe that's just me being stupid :dopey: haha

U can hear the sounds when ur in the first person but.....i think all of them are the same sound. The reason some of them might be at different levels of sound is because...the amount of boost pressure (simple the higher the needle the louder the sound) But......this is always open for debate.............

Interesting............I have never heard this and I have a Supra RZ. Actually I have 300 cars and only at 40% completion.........but that's beside the point.

I'm using mono, but that shouldn't matter. How quiet is it?

EDIT: lol, i just realise that your post was more about the fact that there is a sound, and how hard it is to hear, and not my long rant I originally posted about why this is..... my bad :dunce:

Yeah I bought it and fixed it up wit everything HKS cuz.... I felt like it... and I tested the car on the Tsukuba Circuit in first person and you can clearly hear the bov valve, obviously, when you let off the throttle or when you change the gear,
These are the stats of the supra, if it matters

Exhaust: Racing
Racing Chip: Racing
Tire Type: R1 on F&R
Turbo: Stage 4
Intercooler: Racing
Clutch: Triple Plate
Flywheel: Racing
Carbon Driveshaft: Equip

859hp

the sound is loud and should be easy to hear even in low volume, i donno if mono has anything to do with it, but im using stereo so... I donno..

if that doesnt help ill record the sound to prove that im not an idiot :)

Don't get me started.

WHY do people care about blow-off valve sound again?!

I always thought that noise was me Farting after dinner.
Duke, at least these guys are playing GT4.

This is in relation to a rant (that we've probably all read 1,000xxx times) about how unrealistic sounds are in Turismo and how there's no blow-off valve... now he's recanting.

Hehe...I'm still pissed my '64 GTO with a 389ci tri-power engine sounds like a 5ci 2-stroke weedwhacker :ouch:

lol, agreed! now lets all move on

Because they all want big, loud ricey skank whistles to be gangsta. :yuck:

If you want BOV's try NFSU2 , GT4s about the racing not the visual/audio aspects.

But GT4 is a Drving simulator and im pretty sure that a supra, skyline or whatever with eleventy million BHP is going to make quite a loud sound when discharging the air through a BOV, So Although it doesnt really bother me if my car farts or not it would have been nice if they turned the sound up a little even if it was for the said cars. :)

Hmmm... and the Lancia Delta Integrale should squeak and rattle like a shrimp boat in a storm when going through gravel...

It's in there, though... (the BOV, I mean)... happy? :)

Not if they recirculate the air to the ITC or whatever. Don't forget many brands have already BOV stock on a turbo car. and those BOVs aren't all the same.

Now in tuning paradise people like BOV's who blow to the side of the car just so they can use it to challenge somebody on the street or let hem now you're the real deal or just to sound cool. And those are the general PPPPShhhiieeeewwt. Some others you just can't hear...

I know two people with Mitsubishi Lance EVO VIII's and they are both slightly modded under the hood, and they both have VERY LOUD BOV sound. One of them is putting out 410bhp to the wheels. He also owns a auto repair shop.

the reason I brought it up is not because I want my cars to be all ricy and make farting sounds.. but I think that just about any car that is in any way modded, well at least with a turbo, has to have a blow off valve... and although its possible to not have an amazingly loud blow off valve, it adds to the realism of the game- - which is really what I was going for. And it gives the engine sound some character, in my opinion.

Not every car with Turbo has an BOV. My friends Viggen doesnt blow off, because the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is placed in a different spot, so if air blew off, it would read it incorrectly cause to cut PSi...so it redirects the air. Many cars do have a BOV, but not all.

Watch any gt races and you won't here very loud blow outs, its just a ricer thing really.

The whole sound in the game needs to be improved anyway. What they have done is bunged a mike under the hood of every car an recorded the sound that way. Sure, the engine note will be good, but the exhaust note is missing, which can really MAKE the sound of the car. For example, the M3.

I dont think we can realistically expect them to record the sound of every turbo tuned car with and without a BOV, considering the amount of cars in the game, maybe they can adjust the loudness depending on the BHP and displacement for now?

Correct me if im wrong but i have noticed that when you upgrade the turbo for k cars with small engines like the cappuccino, they have a more noticable bov sound than if you did the same thing for maybe an s15.

Small engines, big turbos, i gues, would have a louder bov than a normal combination.

then again its just a theory.
