Lock this thread, delete this thread, ban me, i don't care because honestly, i feel that this is something that needs to be voiced.

i've posted here on and off since before GT4 came out and there is a reason i stopped posting here, too many novel length posts!

seriously, if you try to ask a question the thread gets locked with "use the search feature", problem is, when i search it takes me to some 30 page post with 90% crap and yet it would have taken 2 seconds for someone to answer the damn question. i notice this mainly in the GT4 forum where every third post gets locked because of this.

SOME OF US DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO READ 30 PAGES FOR 1 ANSWER!

before you jump to conclusions, no, i've never had a post locked because of this, its merely prevented me from asking a question and instead i headed off to another site to find out the info.

your all so concerned with keeping everything in a few select threads that you forget that those of us who post at 1-2 dozen sites don't want to read every single post thats made.

as a forum webmaster i know how hard it is to prevent people from spamming the same thing over and over again, but keeping everything in a thread with a million and a half comments that have nothing to do with the subject is not the best way to organise information. try something else, more FAQs, have people specifically designated to answer these questions on staff(give FAQ or help staff discounted premium membership or even free premium for taking their time to organise the information or some other way of saying thanks)

its really made GTP a place that isn't all that fun IMO, something needs to be done about it

Well, i dont have any impact on this site, but it will be interesting to see an admins response to this

There are plenty of FAQ's on this site. And what I have found when searching is: If it has been asked before, even if the thread is 30 pages long, the answer to my question is almost always on the first page.

It's an inevital problem with forums. They are designed to collect opinions from everyone and facilitate idea swapping, not categorize facts. I think GTP has been doing a stellar job at keeping the fray down.

This has already been posted, please use the search function. :p

But seriously talking, a big GT4 FAQ would be awesome. Do we have that here already? :dopey:

👍

Plenty. Check the stickies at the top of the GT4 Forum.

Learn how to use the serch function better. It ain't that hard, fella. I never have a problem with it. Practice with it, and all will be good. 👍

Never really had a problem but there are a couple of things you could do to avoid at least having to post a new thread.

1. Post in a thread that is similar or may be old even if it does have a lot of post that you don't want to go through. At least it's a on or about the same topic so it's valid and can be answered.

2. Post a question in a thread like April 05 thread.

Kind of common sense to me I guess.

edit: or hell... PM a member that has posted in the thread your looking for, better yet hit up a mod, they'll love that!

i've been using countless search features since i started using the internet back in 1997, i have a degree in CST(Computer Systems technology) and my BAIST(Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology), i know how to use a search engine. my problem is that it still brings up sometimes a half-hours worth of shuffling to find an answer, espessially to a question thats been asked once before yet has been referenced dozens of other time with no visible link, only a "use the search feature" comment

GTJugend
Ever tried "display results as posts" when searching?

yes
//edit
to further my answer, it gives more fine tuned results, but runs the risk of missing a post that may have vital information about the subject, yet doesn't reference it by name
//edit

i agree with you that search function brings loads of irrelevant info. still gtp forum's great place to be.

myself, if i have a question, i prefer to search from google than use forum search :)

One of the good things about GTP is the novel length posts. Descriptive, intelligent, thorough, thought out and from knowledgeable people. Why wade through 30 pages of posts, when reading one post has the answer you were looking for? Would it be too much of us to ask that you think for yourself and we not have to spoon feed you?

We choose not to spoon feed you the answer, because you do it for one, you do it for all. In short order, we have 30 pages of short meaningless threads instead of a handful of descriptive threads.

You don't care to read every thread, and neither do I. That’s a choice we all make. Would you rather skim through 30 pages of threads or a handful of posts?

Yes, we do have people spamming the same thing over and over again. That's why we lock or recycle threads. Keeping it contained to one thread allows us to find the answer in one thread. As you are probably well aware, people tend to skip the Read This: threads. An FAQ is an excellent idea. Many are in the works. GT4 is an involved game and it is complicated, therefore it takes more than a few months to fully document it. As we recently learned, giving access to people can have its draw backs. Severe drawbacks. Jordan will only give permission to people he feels can sufficiently handle the requirements.

You're obviously a busy guy, posting on up to 24 forums, while also being a forum webmaster, and I'm guessing a college or high school student, so we do thank you for taking the time to write this diatribe. We try quite hard to keep the forums clean, and easy to read. With the mindless white noise kept to a minimum. Since you don't approve of our methods, GTP may not be the place for you. We encourage a wide variety of people to post and give good content to GTP, if you're not up to that and only wish for us to answer your questions, it might be time to pick another one of those 23 forums to spend more time at.

Yes, indeed. We continually monitor and guide GTP on a strict basis. Can I suggest that you take a few months off and return to GTP when the fervor of GT4 subsides?

Many people above agree that GTP is an excellent forum, with loads of info. You just need to think for yourself and find it.

Good luck,

Errm. DA, did you really need to reply with a novel length post? It's too long and I can't be bothered to read it all. I'm a busy guy, you know. So if you could just read my mind and post only exactly I want to read, that'd be great.

And PM it to me, because I can't be bothered to look for this thread next time, either... too many clicks.

Thanks,

M

Why does everyone who is going to post a thread like this start it out with "ban me I don't care"? The mods aren't going to ban someone for voicing their opinion unless it is maliced towards others.

I am a sophomore Mathematics and Computer Science double major, and I have no problems whatsoever with the search feature. Whenever I've used it, it gives me good results. The key is knowing how to search (and use your browser's find feature). Sure some threads are huge, but set it to 100 posts per page and you can go through alot more quicker.

This forum is a very good place for information, chatting, and just plain old wasting time (like I'm doing right now). But like some above me have said, no one is going to spoon feed you the information; you're eating solid food now, you can do it yourself.

But, no offence intended, who are you to demand instant satisfaction ? We all search and look for things find them and don't have too much of a problem...why should one persons demands for instant gratification change a whole system ?

Man...this is getting old pretty quick. If you use forums alot, you should know that there is going to be a pretty high percentage of BS to wade through in order to find any results. These are human beings conversing with each other in an anonymous global forum. I would think that anyone who even has experienced a chat room or forum would understand how out of control things can get in an unregulated environment.

I do technical work to earn my salary and I have to often resort to searching "professional" IT forums for answers. Even there you get bunches of people with nothing but hunches and lots of unneccessary cr*p. If you look around long enough (or, may the gods help you, moderate a board), you will get the hang of maneuvering through the debris and rubbish. Now imagine how much cr*p is born as you lower the average age, maturity, and even knowledge of the usage of a natural or second language...things get crazy!

That being said, it does kinda throw you off if you are used to BS-wading once you see a regualted forum. "Wow...I actually have to look for a thread instead of boldly walking in and demanding an answer." What a difference. I like it. But I am more of a library/browse kinda guy, not a bank robbing thug demanding all the cash, RIGHT NOW!

Like I said in Hachi Roku's "Regulars vs Noobs" thread, When I first go to a forum for answers, I LOOK for answers. I don't just waltz into the place and start demanding answers. Maybe it would help if people would just stop and look around first.

But that's just my 2 cents/pence/yen...

Oh, and by the way...I LOVE NOVEL LENGTH POSTS. :)

@SilverEclipse01

Nicely said for a member of all of 2 months and only 6 posts. Good job. 👍

whats the answer to (interruption) google it
but what about (interruption) google it
but i want this to be (interruption) google it

if you can try GTP for information, try other 3rd party sites via google

I have beef with A.1. steak sauce. I've never had it with GTP.

Is it yummy?

No. A1 is horrible. You gotta go with equal amounts of Lee & Perrin's Worcestershire Sauce and melted butter. 👍

A.1. horrible? I hope you know that when God eats a steak, he eats it with A.1. Steak Sauce. I hope you drown in it now.

i'd also like to add that in the day that goes by waiting for people to answer your question, you could've found what you're looking for several times over.

not to mention the strenuous task of relocating your topic and bumping it again once it gets drowned out by all the other "useless crap".

No matter how a Forum is run, there will always be people complaining.
Not everybody can be pleased. And that is not the main goal of a Forum, either.

I have watched/read in this Fora for a few weeks, before I finally decided to start posting. I read the rules, I searched the FAQs, I got a general idea on how the community is run. I learnt what is accepted, what is not, and what is frown upon.

I used my common sense.

Be humble, be respectful, and you will be respected (maybe, hopefully, one day ;))

I haven't been here long, but I have already had my share of useful posts, useless posts, etc.

Granted, the Search function is not the best thing in the world, but if you know where to look/how to look, you will find the information, in one way or another.

People can't just expect to be lazy and obtain what they want, just because they have a membership. That is not how a Forum works.

And, last thing, there are even TOO many duplicate threads about the same subjects. If anything, they should be removed, rather than people being allowed to ask for the n-th time: "When do I unlock the Black Cars?"

The FAQs give their good share of useful information, too.

The Wizard.

I'm sorry that you don't agree with the way things are managed here, incubusnb, but I believe it is the best way to manage all of the content in our forum. The thing is, "forums" or "message boards" are probably the single worst way to organize content. Because of their open and public nature, I don't believe there is any single way to really keep things in their place. Discussions flow and change in their progression - that's what is supposed to happen - but it causes a lot of really good information to get buried under a lot of conversation.

But that's OK. I try to organize a lot of the most important content on the main site, and hopefully with the next version of our site, it will become all the more useful. If you are having trouble finding the information you want inside a thread, don't forget to use the in-thread search feature. You can use it simply by typing your query into the search box in the blue header of each thread, and your results will be limited to that thread.

Sounds like someone is bein a cranky pants because this site actually asks for a lil more brains and dedication than some sites out there. *cough ign cough*
Frankly, due to its anti "repeat question threads" i've found this site to be more helpful and informative than many forums out there. This site has become my one and only source for GT4 now, simply due to this. It keeps the site new, and interesting because of its organization. I think the mods here are doin a pretty good job, and I thank em for keepin this site the way it is. 👍
