I have a couple of questions...

I have one about cars, and one about tracks... I'll start with the car one.

Ok, I haven't been playing GT4 for about 7 months, and I just started a new file two days ago. I bought myself an RX-7 FC (used), tuned it up and have been practicing my drifting the last while. I'm getting a bit better but I still need a lot more of practice, haha...

Anyway, I'm planning on winning enough races and saving up enough credits to by some sort of Nissan 350Z. Now my question is, which one is the best one for drifting and racing overall? As far as I'm concerned, there's a bunch of them, and at the moment I'm planning to buy the 70,000 credit one (i think that might be the one you get at Nismo or something... I forgot... does anyone know which one I'm talking about? XD), but there are a bunch of others ones and I'm pretty clueless to which 350Z (or fairlady) is the best one. Can someone help me out here?

My second question is about a track. Costa di Alfami, do be specific. When I first saw it, it reminded me TONS of downhill mountain courses like in Initial D... LOL... with all it's hairpins and tight roads and everything. Personally, it looks like the best place to drift (once I learn how to PROPERLY...). Well, anyway, I checked the polls on the favorite tracks to drift on, and it's near the bottom, which surprised me... does anyone want to share with me their thoughts on Costa di Alfami and drifting? =D

Thanks in advance!

From my experience, its a little TOO tight. Some turns are pretty good, but others are much more difficult because you can really get a good set speed and angle.

Don't get a 350z... It's hard to tune (in my case I mean) and it's not a very stable drift car either. Start in arcade mode with any car you want and then determine whether or not you want to buy that car in GT Mode. I do stock drifting right now although I started the opposite way. I've been drifting for over 2 years now but arcade mode is the way to start 👍

Yeah, arcade is the way to go to find a good drift car but, you cant try that car unless you bought it. However I find the 350Z just fine to drift, its just a little different. The way it kind works is that you just got to let it slide into the corner and let off the gas.

A 350Z is a bad car to drift but if you still have your heart set on that car then the Opera Z would probably be the best choice because its lighter than all the others, but it still is not the greatest car to drift in, sepecially if your just starting out.

I don't have much experience with the 350Z, so I'll just stick with your second question.

Seems you found the polls on "favorite" tracks, and I think that Costa di Alfami is not a great track for drifting because hairpins in GT4 are difficult to drift because the tires have too much lateral grip when spinning.

A good track for drifting is the beginner course(small "egg-shaped" track with a chicane) because it's small and easy to memorize, so you can focus more on technique and less on the track-itself. I learned on Autumn Ring Mini, but the tracks that people voted for on the polls are good too. 👍

THanks for the responses.

Anyway, I just bought myself the Nismo Fairlady Z-Z thing... the 150,000 credit one... does anyone have any experience drifitng it? I'm finding it kind of hard... I used Dropchick (i think that's the name)'s settings for it but the gear transitions seem wack, like, even on auto, it uses gear 3 to go 60 KM/H... -___- (so it accelerates painfully slow).

Does anyone know how to fix this? or drift good with the Nismo Fairlady?

Well, you are using N tires for the car right? If you aren't I suggest you do so, and as for accelerating slow, that shouldn’t be too much of a factor when drifting. In my own personal opinion a car should be drifted stock first so that afterward you can concentrate on its flaws and know its strengths.
Also, you might consider lightening it up a bit to be more like the Opera but, in general it still comes from the same family as the 350z so just search around for drifting with that.

Personally,i really dont like using the Fairlady. It has its own advantages and disadvantages. It just feels weirder that all the other FR cars. And for a good drifting map,For beginner tsukuba works dreamss. And also trial mountain.

I don't like the fairlady Z. Heavy as hell, and nowhere near as responsive as other cars. ESP. for a beginning drifter. I had problems drifting it at first, but you get used to it afterawhile, try to carry as much momentum as you can.

When you guys say it should be drifted stock... what exactly does it mean? Do you mean I should try to drift it without any changes to the default settings, except with just all the aids off?

yah because if you dont like the feel of the car,is it worth it?plus most cars tend to let the back end swing better than othhers.

So should I just try a buncha cars in Arcade mode sans aids before I buy them? Oh and btw, speaking of Arcade mode... why do some cars feel different in Arcade mode compared to GT mode? I swear, tons of my settings didn't get transfered over to arcade mode when I used my cars from the garage...

That's exactly the right idea, even if you can't drift it. If you like something about it, tune it and get rid of it's weaknesses.
