OK so here goes, today i was racing in the F430-GTR race. All the races were basically between my self and one other very fast racer who I wont name. Every race the other racer would just stay behind me letting off on the straights until the last lap when he would just draft up on me on the last straight on the last lap and pass me for the win. During the race in question he actually pulled over on the first lap to let me by and then rode arround the rest of the race behind me until we exited spoon, he would avoid passing me, he exited the final chicane every lap and would not even atempt to pass me. I knew he was just waiting for the last straight where I would be help less. We were both driving F430's and they draft very well. So we exited spoon I decided to try and defend I stayed to the inside and held my position I did not weave back and forth. there was probably 90% of the space for an F430 on the inside of the track. The other driver stuffed his F430 into that hole and sent me flying off track, I kept it straight and made a run at him into the final chicane, I was pissed and returned the favor in the chicane sending him off the track. I won the race, I got a message from him complaining about the race. I have raced with pretty much everyone on this board and I would like to think I have a good reputation for being a clean racer. If I am racing with someone and they get a run at me 99% of the time I wont even defend the line, thats racing, but what ticks me off is when someone rides behind me the whole race enjoying my draft and holding back until the last straight. Are we supposed to start competing to be in second pace on the last lap, should we all start letting some one passed so we will have the advantage on the last lap. I say we be clean and fair but should all push 100% the whole race and who ever is in front at the end is the winner.
what do you guys think, am I the A-hole here, how do you guys handle this???????

i probably would have done the same in frustration honestly. but i do agree, always push to the front when possible.

Welll, I understand your frustration, but I wouldn't hit back. Hitting back doesn't make you a "punter", but doesn't set an example also. YOU should be the one to send him a PM.

btw, tonight I was punted and sent flying off track at Degner by a GTP tagged driver (someone I never met before) in a yellow Ferrari. I am used to punting, after all, 90% of GT5P players online are punters, but it was the first time I received such treatment by a fellow GTP tagged player.

So, you see, you must only trust others based on the knowledge you have from previous races. Even if they have GTP in their online usernames.

It could of been an accident and he might not of seen you.

I understand your situation, but that doesn't mean you should be hitting him back. It's like theres other ways to solve a fight without using violence. Same rule applies here, there's others ways to win, other than hitting him off.

Makes you look no better than him, besides whats a win worth anyway? 50k credits? That's not a whole lot compared to your online self respect, and besides hey you've got a GTP tag out there!

(No pun intended!) :)

What you could have done is to follow him through the chicane and then draft him for the win in the straight. That would have hurt him more I think to turn the tables on him and take the victory.
He must not be aware of the etiquette we ask from other racers or he would have stopped after putting you off the track. Or maybe he was waiting to give you the win once you both exited the chicane.
In any case, if you are going to take a stand of retaliating against punters then you need to be prepared to cop the flack when it rebounds. I personally don't think you're the A-hole in the equation. It just sounds like two guys allowing the emotion of the moment to colour their thinking. That can happen to anyone.

I know what you guys mean I know that hitting him back was maybe not the best thing but my biggest question is how hard should I defend my position in a situation like this, its just I feel what he did is almost like a sucker punch, even though I am faster there is nothing within the morals of being a clean and fair racer that would allow me to win the race, and its not about the credits or even wining at that. The thing I enjoy most about this game is the true spirit of competition and its ruined by stupid games like the one this guy played.

There is nothing wrong with defending your line. You let it be know that you were taking the inside line, he was too aggresive trying to fit into such a tight gap so I believe the fault is on him and if there was damage, I dont think he would of risked ending his race there so close to the finish line.

honestly it sounds like a boring strategy to me but the thing is in a race no other lap matters besides the last one. this strategy would only work though in a small 2 or 3 person race if you have a big pack odds are it would never work. but its a fair strategy to me except for the pushing off the road part.

I have raced with you and have no complaints.I think I would have done the same thing once I found out how the other driver was going to play.I see no problem here.👍

I personally wouldnt have punted him into the chicane deliberately. I would have tried to outbrake and beat him properly, and if he cut in and we hit by accident then so be it, but not deliberately.

It was wrong of him to pull the stunt and then get angry at you about it. But i dont have a problem with his strategy. He raced that way cos he knew he could win that way. If you can win without punting the other guy off, then i dont have a problem with that. He knew the strengths of his car and how he could best pull a victory cleanly. He spent the race setting up for the last apex of the Spoon curve and pulled it off well. He obviously is a clean(ish) driver to have raced closely behind you a few races up to that point where he puts his strategy into action, therefore he would have been watching and avoiding you at braking points, corners etc. If you had thought a little more, maybe braking on the apex of the second dunlop curve, forcing him to double brake and ruin his momentum down the back straight, you could have broken the draft and pulled off a victory yourself. Or set yourself up for the last spoon apex, taking a different line, being slower in but allowing you to be much faster out. There are ways to beat that and prevent a 2nd place from snatching victory in the last few corners. Its racing to win, and if you race to win cleanly, then i have no problem the strategy involved, its like telling someone they cant use TCS or ABS because you dont.

I dont agree with how he pulled off the last stunt to pull past you and then sent a messege about it, but i dont have a problem with his race strategy.

I would have tried to outbrake and beat him properly, and if he cut in and we hit by accident then so be it, but not deliberately.

This.

(But perhaps a slightly more aggressive pass than what would normally perform)

It could of been an accident and he might not of seen you.

Look, I pass this guy coming out of the esses (he goes a bit wide, I take the inside); We approach Degner with me in front (I could see his car in the rear view mirror, have no doubt that I was in front). When I tap the brakes, downshift and turn for the corner, I'm bumped hard and my car is sent flying off track, stopping only in the barrier.

So, what couldn't he see? My car? Couldn't he feel the bump? Couldn't he hear the noise it made? Didn't his car miraculously keep on track because he used my car to brake?

About it being an accident: Could be, it happens and has happened to me also, but even then he should have waited. A PM would be nice also. That's what I do, that's what I see the majority of this forum members doing.

Sorry Rabbitude to use your thread to talk about my own complaint. About yours, I'd just like to add one other experience I had, this being a pleasant one. I drive a GTR, a car that is very difficult to defend itself between Spoon and the hairpin, if a Ferrari is close. So, in the last lap I exit Spoon in 1st place, but looking back I see, closing fast :
- a pack of three Ferraris
driven by
- zabeu ,
- honeycar  and
- Madforce

So, I take the left lane, and keep it all the way to 130R, I do it side by side with zabeu and we also arrive side by side to the hairpin, I'm the first to get out of it and then it's just a question of seeing wich car accelerates better until the finish line. I won, and between 1st and 4th place we had maybe half a second.

After that, I sent a PSN message to zabeu, saying that I was sorry to block him and that I know he could force a pass on me in the hairpin if he wanted to. He replied saying that I didn't block, I just defended my position in a way that he had to make contact to pass, something he wouldn't do.

THAT's clean racing.

Ever watched the 125 MotoGP at one of the tracks with the looooong straight to the finish line.. the tactic there is NOT to lead on out of that final corner because you will lose to the draft. Watch those buggers weave all over that track down to the flag trying to break the tow !!!!

If you watched Valentino Rossi you will see someone who is a master at applying pressure from behind, watching and summing up whoever is in front and working out where is best to pass.

Its all a part of racecraft. Its a valid tactic.. it allows him to see where you are quick and where you are slow.. you can plan your move and you are (in this case) in control of the race. In some cases it will (and did !!) upset the driver in front and thats a good thing cause if you lose your cool when racing, chances are you will make a mistake.

I have enjoyed this tactic when I happen to be in a race with a driver/car I know is slower than I (Doesnt happen too often :) ). I will poke the nose up the inside, then brake a little earlier and let them have the corner.

By the sound of it there wasnt an intentional hit, he had planned his move out, probably over the past 2 laps and was ready to execute it. Remember we are not all pro racers so errors in driving and judgement will occur.
The move sounds harsh but maybe he believed there was room and was racing from the Bumper view where you lose the boundaries of your car. Maybe he shouldnt have gone for it, but maybe he was comitted to the move.. once you have the speed and line set and you slam those brakes on, you are not in a position to change line much or brake harder which means if there is a car in the way or you realise that gap aint quite big enough, you will probably hit.

I dont mind a bit of door rubbing if someone executes a hard (but fair) move on me, thats just racing on limits.

Intentional contact however is not justifyable..

I'm guessing the other fast racer was a GTP member. If a GTP member did something similiar to me I wouldn't hit him back because I know GTP would never try and wreck you on purpose. But I would have spun him as you did if it were someone else. (not GTP, GTRP, or any other clean race team)

To be honest I think you are a bit upset that he leeched off your draft for the whole race then went for it at the end.

I remember racing you Wonderwiley at Suzuka in Ford GT LMs a long time ago, I moved to block you on the back straight after you got a run on me in the draft at Suzuka and you just ran into me and spun me instantly and kept motoring on without stopping.

Hmm no offense, i may be wrong, and i am not trying to say it was not justified what you did to him.

But there is a chance he was simply a better driver than you, and he kinda played with you. I have sometimes if I get in a race with some really poor drivers, i just wait for them and have some fun or the like. ( No i am not a very good driver. Most people here would proberly beat me, pretty easy. I do however enjoy racing games a lot )

What he did he has 100 % right to do so. If he wants to see how your driving the track, and he is sure he will be able to beat you on the final straight then it is his right to do so. There is nothing stopping you from slowing down to let him overtake you, and aply his own tactics to him.

Where he went wrong is he maybe pushed to hard when you tried to defend your line. So maybe you both had equal part in this incident.

I also know your feelings it is so frustrating, this game with all the punters, and host quitters. Pretty much the reason i am not playing it until we get some private rooms.

It could of been an accident and he might not of seen you.
doubtful. I had a race, and on the second lap on the straight before the 130r the guy just absolutely rams me straight on from behind, doesn't even pretend to try and avoid me. He pushes me off, and I manage to catch up to him and he pass him for p1. I message him something like, "maybe if you ran me off the road more you wouldn't have lost" and he says, "sorry..didn't see you"

didn't see me?! DIDN'T SEE ME!? How could you not have seen me, by the time you hit me my car took up 100% of your viewing window! He must have been tying his shoes or something.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

Perhaps from his perspective, you left a carwidth for him to pass on the inside and when he took that carwidth, perhaps you moved over a little bit and he saw that as blocking?

Then you tap him from behind going into Casio and in his eyes that may have been twice you wronged him.

I don't like people who weave about trying to break draughts - this is not MotoGP. Pick your line and stick to it, be it defensive or not. As for tactics, well they work both ways don't they? Next time you should follow him and draught him on the last lap.

The question is, can you keep up with him?

If it wasn't the last lap I would've, but the last turn of the last lap!!..Geez, good thing there's no car mounted guns on these cars..I mean, that's really just asking for it..

I don't see a problem if he uses tactics to win the race, by being 2nd on the long straight to draft. if you knew what he was up to, you could prevent it somehow. anyhow, he should'nt have hit you. if i was driving, i would have to stopped and wait and let you take it.

Although it's a poor display of sportmanship to wait for the pass until the last corners in an unimportant race, it isn't forbidden. Whether his move was fair or not, all depends where the other driver was when you entered the braking zone. If he was already next to you, you should have given him the space, moved a bit to the right to have the edge going into the chicane. On the other hand, if he braked into the 'gap' / side of your car, then he was wrong and shouldn't complain about your move.

Hey earth i dont remember this incident, not saying it did not happen but if I was at fault which it sounds like I was then I'm sorry, you have been clean with me and you did not deserve that, like I said I dont remember it so I cant explain what happened, if I had seen your post I would have fessed up sooner

And the driver in question was not a GTP driver, I appreciate all the input sounds like next time I should try something different
