Yeah i know that one but i only have one battery, about the time machine, does that work with fat psp's? I googled it and everything said it installs 1.50 kernel on slim psp's.

there are 2 types of pandora battery now... the one that make your battery useless and the one that you can turn into a normal battery again. I can't remember what it's called, but you still need a custom firmware battery in order to make one.

From what I remember the time machine works using pandora's battery. I gather you just want to play ps one games on your psp right? From the sounds of it quite a few of us are doing it on 4.01 without any problems, you should (I'm almost certain you can) be able to upgrade straight to 4.01 m33 given your current firmware.. download the files and give it a shot.

You can convert your battery to Pandoras battery, then convert it back after you are done.

Correct, it uses Pandoras battery

I can 110% guarantee that you cant! You need to use an exploit only available in 1.50 to install custom FW onto a PSP running official FW.

Hmm, don't know why I thought Thiele was already using custom firmware; that being the case what I said would have worked.

Just a note, are we even allowed to discuss how to get onto custom firmware on GTP?

I think right now we are treading on very thin ice! It appears to be a bit so-so.

I refrain explaining how to do it on the open board, because that IS against the AUP.

Basically, since you're already on OFW 3.80, the only way to get CFW on your PSP is to use Pandoras Battery.
IIRC the highest firmware that is downgradable without PB is 3.50
and to get to 4.01 M33, you have to be on 3.71 M33 or higher because the older ones have a problem with the installer I think.

Since you are not already on a custom firmware, you cannot make the "magic" memory stick without getting somebody else to get the IPL and other needed files, then using programs on your PC to format the memory stick in the right way and write the IPL in the correct place, then you can manually copy the other files (the firmware updates) to the memory stick and when you put the battery and the memory stick in (assuming the battery has already had the Pandora serial written in [0xFFFFFFFFFF I think]) it should boot up automatically with a screen telling you to press X to install whatever firmware the memory stick is set up for, you can then change the battery back into a normal one and use your PSP as normal, with the added bonus of CFW.
I'd also recommend using Despertar del Cementerio instead of the original Pandora files, as these will get you straight to a higher CFW (3.80 M33 if you use V5), from which you can just use the network update or download the needed files manually.

I had a original FW 1.5 PSP and ended up selling it for profit when the newer models were unable to get hacked, but that didn't last long. I use my DSL for my portable gaming, which I rarely do now.

Edit: H3rmaN, I'll follow your advice. 👍
