I need a set of speakers...

Anyone wanna give theirs up? They need to to handle atleast 140 watts:)

Since we just got all our stuff from storage, my dad gave me his old stereo (minus speakers). Actually its was just a Tuner and Amp. Scientific Audio Electronics is the brand name, circa 1986 or so.

So any recommendations? Needs to be cheap, cause my funding is low. Sound quality isn't a big deal at the moment.

I'm looking at these cause their cheap and its 100 bucks for a pair.

Well, if you were looking for computer speakers, I couldn't recommend the Monsoon MM-700 any higher. I got them with my new computer last week, and they are simply amazing! Not to mention, they look very cool. :cool:

Anyway, if you do decide to buy those speakers, space, would you mind purchasing them via my Amazon referral link? I would really appreciate it. :)
 
I have 2-3 peice pc speaker sets. 1 is an Altec Lansing 3 peice set, got it for $50 now it's at about 35 or so, sounds good but no on-set bass ajustment, and the sub faces down, with no bass port, just the speaker facing down.
My other set is a Boston Accustics 3 peice set. My dad won them from an electronics place, never used them, and I convinced him to give them to me. Sounds great. Bass adjustment, bass port, it's great. Only things I don't like is that the system is always on, so I ran the power cord to the back of my reciever so that when I turn the Reciver off the speakers turn off too. And there is a fair amount of ambeint noise, the hiss sound, and it does get annoying if you really listen to the noise, but they sound better than the Altec set.

And then when we ordered our new pc we chose the 3 peice Harman/Kardon set....it's exelent, but it sounded worse than the original pc speakers, so we took it out. Then I was going to get that set but my dad wanted it, and they sound amazing. Better than my 2 sets. They retail for probably $100 or so, but they are great.

i have mh-500s, they're good fine.

id like to go with a nice cambridge 5.1 surround though, or a yamaha 5.1, those are simply better, flatpanels, i find, are too focused sometimes.

How does that work, do you get a percentage of the sale, or a fixed rate on every sale?

I think i'm gonna get those, they'll do the trick.

Did some research on the stereo, top of the line stuff. both are nearly 20 years old, and still work. the Amp was 800$ new, couldnt find a price on the tuner, yet:D

SAE made good stuff from what i read, people with the same stuff has me say its still holding out, and sound almost or better than some of the newer stuff.

traditional cone speakers fill the room with sound alot better than flat panels do, flat panels are very focused in that the shoot straight, they dont spread the sound very well, they basically have to be pointing at your ears to sound very good, but they're crisp when they do. i find that if theres alittle too much treble and the speakers are turned up too high the flatpanels buzz.

Actually, a full-size planar speaker will fill a room quite nicely. Yes, they are very "directional", that's for sure! The lack of box distortion makes up for it. :D

I've actually found that the panels can be more "mid-rangey" than anything else; their high frequency response is quite rolled off.

The panels do clip a little too easily (although I've never clipped mine). The buzzing sound you hear is the panels banging against their metal housing.

At any rate, yeah, there are better speakers for filling a room. Gotcha. :)

I noticed that on my computer at home, but it doesn't do it at work. :reallyodd
 
I Have found that some .jpgs do it to me, I don't know why... This is the second one that does so....
 
Speaking of .jpgs...any file that ends with .jpg will not properly display as a thumbnail...but .jpegs work fine. Any ideas?

Bah, i got movie theater speakers, 4 15inch subs and bose surround sound, booya!
 
O we were talking about comp speakers, my bad, the above is for tv/movie watching. Comp= 4 altec lansing with 1 sub. My comp has 2 bose speakers.
 
well if ya needed help with car speakers, i would be the guy to see, but computer speakers...i know nothing about
 
Yo Rice my standard Bose in my legend kick major butt, 2 6x9's in back and 2 5x4's in front, awesome bass!!!

When i get my dad's (94 legend coupe) i will have 4 12" me thinks, plus the added base of the better Bose speakers :)

uh-huh....i don't think 4 12"s will fit in the legend unless you get freeair.... :rolleyes:

plus you need to get two mid to high range amps to power those puppies in addition to a GREAT wiring job...

trust me on this one, my dad has 3 12"s and so does my brother in their SUVS....the wiring took my brother, me, and his friend nearly to 2 days to do. But after the work, the wiring is essentially invisible and the sound is AWESOME...
