Hey

In really need some help with the Mercedes-Benz Cup in the Amateur League!! I got Mercedes and I fully tuned it but it still drives like crap and I still can't win any of the races...

Please tell me what to do  !!

If you are just simply running to slowly to win, go into the gear ratios and run the final drive up to 4.444 and run the Sports-Wide Slider towards the Sports side so that the car can run to the top of sixth gear.
Then just run very smoothly and you will win.
This one (actually both amateur and pro) is winnable in the SLK. But you must be very smooth.

I assume you're using the SLK like Gil mentioned? He's right, the car can win the Amateur series, but it is tough because the big CLKs blow past you on the longer straights. You really have to take advantage of the turns and gain your cushion there.

I've got a pretty good setup for the SLK, so if you want it, let me know. It's not my favorite car, but I got it going.

Well, I used the CLK55 AMG for both Silver Arrow Tournaments, because I knew that I would be winning an SLK after the first one, and I didnt want 2 of them. The CLK55 is definitely the dominant car out of the 3 and I think it has a good chance of winning in stock form.

I have never used it in the Silver Arrow races, but I have an SLK 230 with 340hp and serious mods and it is an extremely quick and quite nimble. I am pretty sure a moderately souped SLK would be able to blow away the competition. So either get a CLK55 or just do a few extra mods to that SLK...... Dont forget drivetrain components especially.

Really depends on what "Mercedes" car you own. The Kompressor is a challenge, everything up from that makes that race pretty easy. Experiment with cars if you have money.

If I was smart, that's what I would have done. I was trying to save money, and do it with the SLK. However, I spent so much extra money juicing it up, that it would have been cheaper to buy the 55 from the outset. Plus, I wouldn't have wound up with a redundant SLK just to sell at 25 cents on the dollar.

It can be won in the SLK.

I used a Full racing suspension, Sport Brakes, Racing Muffler, port polish, Chip, Full racing Tranny, Medium Slicks, Lightweight 1&2
Then the oil change.

Keep in mind that the AI cheat quite heavily, so the emphasis should be placed on running clean laps. They're given a boost and always stay within 2 or 3 seconds of you. So if you can run clean laps, and stay just ahead of the AI, it's not tough to win.

With this set-up I won the Amateur races by 2.125, 4.061 and 5.694 seconds, so it is a very tight race.

Settings I used: For test course - Bottomed out the suspension, Auto Setting tranny = 26 (hindsight should have gone to 28), ASM = 5; TCS = 1. For everything else, I dropped the Tranny to 24.

Good luck

Yes, that's about what I had to do as well. I should have run it in a stock CLK55 with T2s, and ended up with 3 different M/Bs instead of the touring car and two SLKs.

After some testing, I found that the Silver Arrow races (both leagues) can be swept with the SLK 230 Kompressor, spending just under 83000... less than the price of the CLK55. Here are the upgrades I bought: Semi-Racing Muffler (2900); Stage 2 Turbo Kit (13500); Twin Plate Clutch (2700); Semi-Racing Flywheel (600); Sports Tires (6000); Stage 1 Lightweight (1200); Oil Change (250) [82460 spent]

With the CLK55, I'd likely be spending around 96K to do the same.

So I'm at a bit of a dilemma, in that one of my goals was to spend as little as possible on my way to 100% completion. But another one of my goals was to get as many different prize cars as possible. Using the SLK will have me spending less, but I will have a repeat car (which is something I don't like, especially if I can avoid it). Using the CLK will give me greater diversity for my garage, for around 14000 Cr...

What would y'all do? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Have a great drive!

yes, yes it is (was).
the challenge is trying to keep her on the road :).
(it handles well - i just didn't want to admit it's easy ;) )

i used the cl600.... handles like a soggy sponge.... on a bowl of jelly!!! :p

I didnt do much in the way of upgrades tho (I left the suspension for one thing)

To win this series, would you rather spend around 84000 on an SLK 230 Kompressor, or spend around 97000 on a CLK55?

Spending less is, well, spending less. But that would lead to 2 SLK's in the garage. Spending more is not a goal of mine, but garage diversity is...

Whaddya y'all think? Now... I need help!! Maybe this Merc Cup problem is contagious...

Ah well.. Have a great drive, everyone!

Hazzard:

When I did that, I was trying to spend as little as possible. But I think the issue of having a redundant SLK in the garage is more important. For the few extra bucks, I'd buy the CLK55, and then win the SLK. Three different M/Bs is far better than two.

While building the compendium, I used an SLK, and sold off the subsequent repeat SLK. My intentions for using the SLK was seeing how inexpensive I could run the races (bascially lowest powered vehicle).

In retrospect, I would have gone with the CLK55, to avoid the repeat. Now that I'm at 96%, I'm well into the 10,000,000cr range, and the 13,000cr difference is not a significant one.

Well it depends upon how strict your definition of cash usage is. If you're trying to complete the game with the largest amount of funds, you can sell the prize car (which is a duplicate) thus offsetting the cost of the upgrades to the SLK. Alternatively, if you want the biggest garage possible, then you should do the race in the CLK. But you shouldn't have to spend as much on the CLK to make its pace comparitive with that of the SLK.

Thanks for the input guys/gals! I'm currently leaning toward the CLK55 instead of the SLK 230, to avoid having 2 SLK's in the garage. I think spending an extra 13-14K is worth the added garage diversity.

I'm still not sure I'll be doing this, but I'm making the case for both sides of this coin. The biggest argument I can make for using the CLK is that it would require the purchase of 1 less vehicle to get an "all-car" garage...

That is, in order to end up with a garage that has both the SLK and CLK, one must either buy the SLK and CLK (2 purchases), or buy the CLK and win the SLK (1 purchase). I am of the opinion that doing the latter is more beneficial than saving 14K Cr... in which case I'd still need to spend another 94K if I wanted the CLK.

So now that I think about it, it would cost me more to get an all-car garage by using the SLK than it would if I used the CLK for the Merc cups... I'm now leaning even more toward using the CLK...

Thanks again for the input, guys. I always appreciate the help people offer here. Have a great drive, everyone!

So the difference bewteen both cars is $14,000 considering that the money is only there to be spent then why not spend those few extra bucks and get the CLK 55 AND the SLK 230 and get the experience of driving as many different cars as possible.

And besides, you will only miss that $14,000 if your bank ever gets below $14,000 but chances are, you will be getting loads of cash before the game is even half over.

Dude's thanks for all but i already own all of the Mercedesses that you can buy. Except for the S-Class car of Mercedes (wich i really wanna have)

Road Hazzard is working on a 'perfect' game - he's looking to get all the cars in as few days as possible, buying as few as possible and using as little cash as possible, with a 100% win ratio.

He's planning to BUY the CLK55 and win the SLK - which is what I wish I had done in my game - to avoid winding up with 2 SLKs.
