Way before GT5 came out i read in a magazine that in the future you would be able to pay PD to model a car for you and give it to you to use in GT5 if they had the licensing for that manufacture and then only you would have that certain car. I was just asking to see if there was anymore info on this and if anyone would pay them to put lets say your real life car in the game.

That sounds fairly made up. There are a couple of cars in the game that won contests, or won at a car show so PD modeled them, but I really can't see what you described happening.

I don't think you'd be able to afford it anyway. If you believe the claims of hundreds of working hours to model a car, multiply that out by some hourly rate, and that's your bill.

It would be ridiculously unfair anyway. What would there be to stop people from taking a million horsepower, 10kg, 1000mpg car and racing it. Or trading/selling it for many pounds before duping it back?

IF they did that. it would be like stealth cars. they have to d/l the car. so that would make it not able to gift LOL

Do tell where you found this monster vehicle.

edit: on second thought, mpg? Are we doing eco-races?

24h nurburgring without fuel stop? 1 tank of 20l would be enough.
EDIT:Besides, anyone with graphics skills could mock up a website and model then show to PD

This thread is hilarious. 👍

Even funnier because Ive seen models made for games by people who arent even getting paid for graphic modelling that are so much better then models in gran turismo 5.

Check out games like GTA SA, TDU (PC) RFactor, GTR2, or any game that is moddable.

Very easy to make a computer model of a car and very easy to make it look better then the ****** gran turismo models.

PS they barely took any time to model, MAX a few days each especially seeing as most of the cars already had models from previous games that just had polygons added to make them a bit higher quality.

I think we're laughing at different things.. but to address your post:

A casual look at those games shows me nothing that is equal to the modelling on the premium cars.

Further, the looks are the least of my worries, modelling the performance is much more important.

Third, a few days max? Have you ever used modelling software? I know the answer, that or you're a modelling god.

Last, how is any of this relevant to the OPs question?

I am 100% sure that this is completely true.

When the nurses have gone I'll tap on the radiator and ask Napoleon next door what HE thinks. After all he was right about the return of Jesus! If you're interested that was last Wednesday afternoon and they put him in room 15A.

That it is easily possible to create a very good model without spending a lot of time or money on it and that you dont need some high-end computer software and someone who is a graphics modeller for a living to do so.

Ive seen someone complete a very good model with over 40k polygons including their own textures from nearly scratch to in game in under a week if they want to, not saying its possible with every car (as some have been modelled from scratch) but most of them already have models out there easily downloadable for free.

And Id have to say a lot of the modded cars for other games are equivalent to premium models in Gran Turismo, and a lot of them are pushing 60000 polygons.

Please post examples. Models of cars that are also in GT5 would be best for comparisons. I'm about as far from a GT fanboy as you can get, but I haven't seen much that compares to the visuals on premium models. I would really like to see some of these models, if you can't hotlink photos just a link would be nice.

If your aiming at my point about it being to expensive, I'd say that still stands. Even if it's possible to do in a week, that's 40 hours of billable time someone has to pay for. There would be no reason to do this unless they made money off of it. People who work for PD probably get paid a decent salary. If you have a single worker who can bust out cars of premium quality in 40 hours who gets paid a totally crappy $10/hr that's $400 someone has to pay. I believe $10/hr to be an insane underestimate, I believe 40 hours to be below the required time, and even then what gamer is going to pay $400 bucks for a single car DLC? People bitched about the $5 car packs forza had.

In any event, the OP clearly misread something or read a total rumor so this is all moot.

This is correct, those of you trying to make the point that it only takes a few days, or a week to model a car should realize that when you actually put billable hours to that time it becomes very expensive to model a car. Freedomweasel was grossly understating the hourly rate at which the people at PD would be getting paid to model your car. It would probably be higher than $40 an hour, and even that is probably a generous understatement. No matter what the case may be it would not be cost effective for PD to do this unless they going to charge us thousands of dollars for our personal models.

Also if I were paying to have a model of my car in the game I would want one that actually handled the way the car in real life handles, and not a re-skinned version of another car, which is what takes place in all of the other games you guys mentioned. So that means I would have to also add up the time for them to get the car, take it to a track and test it, record the sounds for the car, and model the interior. That all takes time, and someone has to pay for it.

I would request the Nissan LEAF. All those race cars are horrible for the environment!

I did actually read this somewhere online.
However, the entire page looked like complete Bull S***.
For example, in the "Official Car List" (note that this is a year before the game was released) there were over 20 Porsches, like 30 ferraris, there were 300 DIFFERENT tracks, etc. etc.

I remember coming across this many moons ago as well, but never really believed it, even though it would be amazingly cool!

If I could, I'd go for a '78 AMC Pacer D/L with a custom-fitted 401 V8. Sort of like the Randall AMC specials, only less obvious-looking... I'd want it in red.
