Hey guys. Well, I noticed that my PS3 fan was turning quite fast and it was getting warm, so I figured there would be dust inside that needed clearing out. So I took it apart, the amount of dust was incredible, I cleaned it all out, put it back together again and turned it on.

But... on start up, the fan didn't spool up, and I've had it on a few times now - the fan does not turn at all. It's as if it's not connected, but I've checked and all connections are there. Any idea what could be causing this? I've worked on about 5 PS3s before fixing YLOD and BluRay problems, but this is the first time I've had a problem with the fan not being on.
If there's no problem with the connections then I guess it could be software related but I doubt it because that'd be a bit random considering everything else is fine...

And nope, no multimeter to see if power is getting to the fan.

So any other ideas? Thanks.

You can try to do a fan test, although it's not recommended.

Google PS3 fan test, it will show you a couple of youtube video's.

I never thought of that, thanks.
-I just done it, and nope, it beeps to recognise that it's happened, but it's as if the fan is not connected. I am also working on my friend's PS3, I'll try his fan in my system later. Thanks though.

Fan test will only hurt your PS3.

Maybe you removed something important in the PS3 by accident?

Thanks for the input, but I just tried my friend's fan from his PS3 connected to my PS3, and it works perfectly. So I guess I'll just order a new fan, and the fault with mine will have to remain a mystery... :/ oh well. Thanks guys.

Possibly the fan motor has given up if you ave to order a new one. Be thankful it's nothing more serious!

I suspect one of the wires is broken. As they are very thin, it's easy to tear them apart..

Either those tiny wires are broken or you need a new fan. Easy way to test it is take it out of the machine and connect it to a 9V battery and see if it spins at all. A new one doesn't cost all that much anway.
