I think my computer is doomed.

Heres the problem. First of all, its on my home PC not my laptop if that matters. But every time the thing turns on I get 2 error messages. One of them says "error loading C:\PROGRA~\MYWEBS~1\bar\5.biMWSBAR.DLL" "The specefied module could not be found."

And the other one which apparently just fixed itself usually says something about an error with the gigapocket server or something like that. Does anyone know what gigapocket is and if I can safely delete it?

C:\PROGRA~\MYWEBS~1\bar\5.biMWSBAR.DLL

uuu that looks like it's a inner system file. If the computer tells you that it cannot be found..then it's probably corrupt, and that you cannot delete.

Now let me ask you a question, does it at least run windows or it's stucked in the prompt C: ?

Ciao!

everything works fine, its just when the computer first starts up this box pops up and it is kinda annoying. BTW anyone have any input about the gigapocket thing?

Gigapocket seems to be a SONY program for recording and watching tv shows. You don't have a SONY computer by any chance do you?

Interesting, I dont see why it needs to be started with the computer though.

Many programs start when Windows start by default (AIM, MSN, Quicktime, etc.). Some even connect online without your knowledge (Windows Genuine Advantage, anyone?). It's quite annoying but you should be able to disable them. You'll have more system resources available which can improve speed.

I have no idea how to solve the issue, but I suppose I can try.

Firstly, you mention that its C:\PROGRA~\MYWEBS~1\bar\5.biMWSBAR.DLL that's causing the issue. The "~" indicates that the there is more to the filename. Care to dig into your C:\PROGRAM FILES\ folder and give us the full name of "MYWEBS..." folder ?

Edit: I searched, but there isn't much on a "myweb[...]" program. I'm almost certain that it isn't part of Windows, so it will have little effect while you're using the computer. Maybe a quick visit to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and looking for a MYWEB[...] program and uninstalling it will do the trick. Just install it again if it's a program you use.

There is nothing in the add/remove programs, and the closest thing to mywebs in the program files is an empty folder called MyWay. I am really confused.

Edit: ahh, found it. I went to my sisters documents and my dads documents and they both had a mywebs folder in them. I deleted them and hopefully this will fix it.

Edit 2: the plot thickens...It looks like it has something to do with my spybot search and destroy? I did a search for mywebs and came up with a bunch of stuff from spybot...something to do with recovery? It stands for mywebsearch1. There are mywebsearch1-20 and mywaymywebsearch1-35

Hmm... those folder names sound suspicious. It's hard to trust something named "mywebsearch." I'd do more investigating before deleting things, though. They could be legitimate files needed for a certain program.

MyWebSearch is spyware from whatI remember, and either Spybot, Adaware or any other good anti spyware too should vaporise it for you (infact the fact it says the file is missing indicates you already vaped it).

You can stop it from running at startup by going to Start > Run (Windows Key + R), typing 'msconfig', and then going to the Startup tab on the window that appears, and then deselecting the CoolWebSearch option.

After looking more into it, MyWebSearch is indeed spyware (although the company that distributes it claims that it isn't). Thanks MasterStorm.

Now we have that figured out, just follow MasterStorm's suggestion of disabling the program from running at startup. If you want to completely remove the toolbar, here's a link that might help you out. It also provides a description MyWebSearch and what it does.

Ha! From their website:

Sweet deal guys, but when I search for mywebsearch on my computer there pops up a bunch of .zip files. Apparently they are safe to delete though? I'll look into this more when I get home from school.

Anybody that says they're trying to help you by installing a search assistant is lying, except Google, and maybe (but I'm not sure) Yahoo and MSN.

I make a habit of turning off third-party browser extensions on PCs I deliver. Go to Tools, Internet Options in IE, Click the Advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)" and close IE, then restart. No toolbars.

MyWebSearch may be technically not spyware or adware, but what they do is direct certain kinds of searches to their advertisers rather than to what you might have actually wanted to find, and while they don't deliver pop-ups, that's adware.

Yeah these guys are right. Sometimes you'll get windows that may look completely legitimate, but they're not. Not mywebsearch, not winfix pro, not any of those.

If you ever get a pop up from one of those site...DO NOT CLICK ON THEM EVEN IF YOU'RE GONNA CLOSE THE WINDOW. Disconnect from the internet and then close them; it's pure malware, spyware and worms that you don't wanna get into your pc.

Ciao!

Ok I got most of them deleted but some of them say that the file cant be read from the source or the disk. And another thing, if its gone from the system why does it tell me that on startup? One more thing, spybot didnt tell me about this program when I did a scan the other day?

My own feeling is that your startup list has been modified, and is trying to run whatever application at start up. As the application has been deleted, Windows cannot find it, and hence throws up the error. I gave instructions in my earlier post on how to remove the culprits from your startup list.

It's possible SpyBot did not detect anything for 2 reasons. Firstly, it could have already removed things on an earlier scan (see previous paragraph), or alternatively, it's database may not be totally up to date, so make sure you've got all the latest updates for it. You could also try using a secondary anti-spyware application for added peace of mind, such as AdAware by Lavasoft. 👍
