Well I have a problem with my PS2, lately when I play an old game, like say DRIV3R, the sky turns blue after I damage any car around, until I get far away enough for it to disappear. Also there are these black (sometimes white) sublimonal pieces of what appear to be a bunch of black, or white glass shards flying at warp speed. I have the slimline PS2, the one where they decided to put the fan right there NO AIR ventilates, so it's just moving hot air around. :grumpy:

Also it sometimes read disks whenever it feels like, even when it's brand new CD's. It always plays GT3 for some reason though.

I think I might have to resort to the beer treatment or the flood treatment like I did for my fat PS2. (Not recommended) I threw the fat PS2 into a good amount of water, waited 8 hours, then it finally dried up. It was reading disks like new again, then after a while it just gave up.

For the beer treatment, we didn't have pure alcohol laying around, so beer had to make the cut. We used it to wipe the lens on the fat PS2, which made it work for a few months or so. Then I did the water treatment which only worked for a little while. :grumpy:

The things games put me through... :dunce:

Another thing is when I played Need For Speed: Carbon, sometimes the board is just black at the bottom and nothing is wrong with the CD at all. :scared:

Is my PS2 dying?

Well, you've tried tap water, you've tried beer, how about giving it a bath in tapioca pudding this time? The pudding will seep in and cover the circuit boards, helping keep them cool.

And if the disc tray doesn't work quite right after doing this, you can always lubricate the disc slot with Mountain Dew.

 Where did you find this beer thing? :dunce:

Beer Part? I suggest Gum. I think it might just be the parts, what Version do you have?

My fat PS2 is dead, and my slimline is okay, but it has a mind of it's own. :scared: It can only play GT3 and GT4, not GT2 or GT1. :grumpy: Nothing seems to be working for the slimline. Wiping the lens with alcohol and same for the CD, still problems.

Have you tried any Disc of the same color?

Um, okay.

Unless you already know that, I have to inform you that water and electronic parts aren't the best of friends. Any short circuit caused by the water on an electronic part can damage it or render it unusable. EVEN with a short time spent drying up, there must have been some trace of water left somewhere in it. Sorry to give the grim news here, but I think your fat ps2 is mostly dead. :(

As for the beer part, well, nice try mate. :D

I'd suggest you check with another psone gamedisc to see if it can be read in the slim ps2. It might be a defect to the drive lens. Or, you can always check out for an old used psone around. :)

Actually, water doesn't conduct electricity at all. It's the minerals and other particles in tap water that cause it to conduct electricity.

Of course, racerx510 probably used tap water.

I only did the beer and water thingies to the Fat PS2, because nothing was working at all. My slimline only plays GT3 and GT4, but now it plays GT1 and 2, but some cars you can't race with or it freezes. (Nissan Skyline R32 and R33 are 2 of em.:ouch:)

Some people say that the averege life of a PS2 is about 3 years. I have my original PS2 and it haves 6 years and has never given an error.
I'm surprised!:dopey:

Ditto to that =]

and on topic you could always send it to sony wont be free but it will be fixed...

When there are like black lines and shards all over the place in the game, that means that the PS2 is about to die? :( I have seen it on Burnout 3 and other crap games. It's sort of weird, makes your face feel all goosebumpy. :scared: That really means it's dying?

If its too much trouble, just chuck out your slimPS2 out of the window and buy a new PS3 :D its not worth it to keep repairing if its giving a lot of problem. Take it from me, i had to spend 2-300$ to repair my PS2! (had to repair it twice! :ouch:) but right now it still works but have some problems playing new games...(but my PS2 is totally different from your PS2 cause mine is modded)

Wel it DOES depend on how frequent and how long you use it for ...💡

Have had 2 fat PS2's for 10 years, not one problem even a freeze....

If its busted just get a PS3, probably the best way to go, or get a cheap slimline ps2.

10 years? You sure?

It was only release in the Uk (and all over the world) in 2000. Or are you adding both up to an aggregate?

Well OK 8 years (if you think this year is basically nearly over)... I got mine at launch in Japan in March 2000 and cost me an arm and the bloody leg im telling ya! Thats why its roughly 10... kinda just rounded it off as a decade!

A new slim PS2 is really cheap if you deduct the price of the controller and the power supply. I.e. consider that you're buying another spare controller, and a power supply, and getting the PS2 for about 40 to 80 dollars or whatever. Oh and you get some crappy video cable too! If you can find a game and memcard bundle, then it might end up even cheaper.

They told me my silver PS2 might overheat, but so far it's survived about six 24-hour races.
