Well I was bored. So I decide to re-caulk my winder in my room. So I'm scraping all the old, cracked crap of, which was causing a huge mess(cause on the walls, the caulk was from before we painted the room(we painted when I was like 7(9 years ago, by estimation, the caulk was from like 1987 lol), so as I was peeling this crap off, paint was flying off the wall), but I got it all cleaned up. So then I use rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces, and get this strip caulk stuff. Utter crap! It said that the liner should stay on untill the caulk is in place. So I'm like "ok ok this might work". Wrong! I got about 4" down the wall and the liner separated from the caulk, then the caulk tore and went to the wrong place. So I'm yelling "God damnit!!! Piece of crap!!!" and then I was just going to wait till my dad got home from Borders, and ask him if I could use the caulk gun and the brown caulk that matches the winders(windows, I just like saying winders, like "I threw a ball at the winder and the winder broken" you get it... :) ). He has the caulk gun at work. So he said that he would bring it home tomarrow. So now I have an uncaulked winder with a quarter inch gap on the top(which I jammed foam into for insulation). No problem.

Then I had to put the winder shade back up. It's this thing that you pull the string and it goes up and if you pull the string outwards it slides down, it's like an insulaing shade that blocks the sun and keeps the heat in ect. Well, as I was getting this thing back up over the winder(mounts on 3 little clamp things on the header(for you un-house builders, that's the 2X6 that's at the top over the window gap)), and this little bar that locks the strings(so you can raise it to a certain hight and lower it ect.) dismounted inside and the shade went strait down. So then I had the take the thing down, and my mom fixed it and stuff. So I finally got it back up.

That was like an hr ago. This whole caulk adventure started at about 7:30...

I'm tired... It wasn't a matter of me not knowing what I was doing(I've watched Bob Vila for years, and all those other home shows, I'm skilled :D ), it was bad supplies.

Stay tuned, I should get this all done tomarrow if it works.

Ohh, and I also fixed up my B-series grill that's over the window...Cosmo chewed through the wire, but it was a good thing cause it allowed me to hook it up to this switch(a lever switch, one way goes to a PC fan(that is my PS2 cooling system), and now the other way goes to the light that's inside the Mazda emblem(taken out of a busted flashlight...it's supercool. A shining "wing" emblem in the middle of a silver metallic Mazda B-series grill). So tonight wasn't a total loss...

And my mom said that she would pay me good money to recaulk some of the other winders. I might have my first job!

Maz, having read your typing, I have come to the following conclusions:
You want to be a Londoner.
You need to plan things more.

:)

Hheh...yea...well right now my left eye is killing me...somethings in it...I csn't keep it open...

I shoulda planned it out...I had 2 weeks of vacation to do it, but I didn't think of doing it.

You should get your eye looked at. You only get one pair.

I know about the planning thing. I had loads of work to do on the web site over the Christmas break, but only started working effectively on Jan 4th!

I hate when things don't go right. I had some home stuff to do last night, too. Our bathroom doorknob put a hole in the bathroom wall because there's no door stopper. I've fixed the hole twice but guess what? Unless you put a doorstopper there it just happens again. So I saw this thing at the hardware store an bought it. It's basically a plastic disc that you put on the wall. It distributes the impact of the door knob. The best thing about it is that it covers the hole. The first one wouldn't stick because the adhesive picked up the powdery stuff from the last spackle job. So that one was rendered useless. I had to go back to Ace and get another one. But the second time around I found a nicer looking one that I'd missed before. So I guess it all worked out. Now I can ram the door into the wall all day if I want.

Nothing quite like slamming doors for no reason at all, is there?

I found that problem out when I moved into my place back in May. I didn't expect a cold one in the fridge, but after the family left, the lightbulbs and door stoppers that I swore were in place were all gone. So I smacked holes into three walls in about 24 hours. Lowe's had the solution...79-cent doorstoppers did the trick. The distributed-load stoppers are only for cinder-bloack wallls, never use them on drywall, I've noticed...nothing like a good piece of wall moulding to save the day!

Maz, I think you should do what I do, and save all projects over 15 minutes for a whole day off. That way you can call for back-up, if you mess-up! Start early, that way if it goes to pot, you sleep it off. And if you truly get nowhere fast, you can reward yourself with a nice dinner afterward!

But the picture on the packaging showed a drywall hole  Oh well. As long as it lasts until we're out.

Well my eye is better...had me down bad this morning though. Now it just kinda hurts...I can see fine though.

Well you see, in my household we don't plan stuff...we just do it. So there's been several times where my dad has been working on something vital to the house at like 2AM. :)

As long as my dad remembers to bring home the caulk gun, I should be fine.

Ohh, and my dad's at a Mazda 6 school today and tomarrow, so he doesn't have to work, but if he goes up there to get the caulker, chances are he will have to do something. So I think he got it early this morning...

Ahh, it's done. Finally!

My dad didn't get the caulk gun this morning like I thought...instead we went up to the shop at about 7:30, which allowed me to get some brochures...the waiting room(in the Mazda/Subaru service dept in the building my dad works in...the show room is in a joining lot and we didn't go there)didn't have the new 6 one as I thought there would be, but I got the MS Protege, '03 Miata, and '03 MP5...

Anyway, when I got home, I put down news paper and stuff. Then my dad was going to do just the top part of the window, but I let him do all the way around it. :) I cleaned up the access and did touch up work, and it's drying even as I type...

So it turned out pretty good...little messy but better than it was.

I still have to take care of some stuff with the window when it dries more.

Join me next time as I fix up something else in my house, next time on Home Again with Maz Vila.
