i wonder if the cars will comsume gas, or will take any damage after they crash, or after to much milliage they get old and slow??

Physical damage? Can pigs fly? No, I don't think car damage will be allowed. Physical damage, in terms of handling, maybe. But that's about it. But if you want to race a Beetle Cup Car to smash to bits in a demolition derby... uh, race... then it's not going to happen for GT4.

I think some of the stuff can be done without showing it on the cars model. For example, water temp(if over rev too much or when drafting to long), brake temp/wear and steering alignment(if hit wall or riding the curb to much), fuel.

Transmission problems is possible and KY has mentioned something about battery failure. He also hinted that your cars parts will wear over time and need replacing.

I saw T5-R's avatar and it hit me: where have all the bricks been in the past GTs? Seriously. Are they confirmed for GT4? Does anybody know?

Hmm... Car parts that wear out, now that would be good, very good. If you are bs live, I'll slap you like I will psm if their info is false

I don't think it should be in GT as much as it can be entertaining... I'd just leave that to the PGR and Toca games.

I'm pretty sure gas will be necessary in GT4. There have been several screenshots of the gauge cluster that show a fuel light of some kind (like the oil light in GT3). I've always wanted fuel to play a role in the GT series.........

If fuel is only represented by a single and stupid light, please PD, don't put it !!! this is not what we expect from GT4.

oil is already crap enough !

It just might be true. This info came from several places, and not just from PSM. The term used was "suspension parts" in one article, and "chassis parts" in an interview on a Japanese web site.

I remember reading about mechanical failure. No that would be very cool. I think yall's info is right, think about it, parts that wear out and mechancial failure. All that fits in nicely. I wonder if hitting bumps and letting sparks come from under your car mess up the chassis parts. That would be very realistic.

Well they haven't been confirmed but they have been tested in the PD track days. Volvo & Saab supposedly turned down a representation in GT2 (to do with lack of physical car damage I think?). However with Volvo appearing in PGR2 & looking like they will appear in Rallisport Challenge 2 (along with an S40 TV ad with RSC2!), theres a decent chance they'll be in I think :)

I'd really like parts that wear out in games, like in Sega GT, makes you take more care of your cars if you want them to run at their best. Parts should last a good length of time though & I don't think breaking down mid race is good for a game, better off just loosing most of the benefits of that part & make them pit!

As far as I recall, Volvo didn't want to take part because of it's safety image - i.e. no encouragement of hazardous driving. But they've moved to a more sporty image since and they've obviously changed their mind.

Yeah, its something GT needs more of imo also. When you hit a barrier @ 45 degrees in GT games @ say 100mph your car nearly stops in an stupidly calm fashion & the only after affect is a lame thud sound. :irked: Even without car damage it should be better.

Even before Volvo were bought out they we're trying to go for the sporty image, but I think Ford taking over (God forbid ;)) sped things up a bit.

Personally I would like everythig on the car to be able to be damaged, but I know some people wouldn't want that. But if they add enough non visual damage like suspension, brakes, transmission, turbo's even ect then there would be no need for the 10 second penalty.

Because the 10 second penalty is very unrealistic, a drive through pit on the other hand, or if the incident happens on the last lap a certain ammount of time added onto your total race time is more realistic, so if you have a crash on the last lap and you finnish the race 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place and you get given a 10 second penalty added to your time you effectively finish 6 second behind second place.

Also to hit a wall hard mess up your suspension and at the same time be limited to a 10 second speed limit would push the frustration barrier too far for most people.

The 10 second penalty was for the GT4p game only. I think it will also be used for online play as well.

The penalty in GT4p made sense, because I believe it's whole purpose was to teach you to drive properly. Therefore, if you commit a foul, you'll pay for it with a time penalty.

Now, online play makes sense too. Commit a foul against another racer, and get a 10 second penalty. It will help stop cheating, I guess.
