I tried searching thread titles for "last lap" and couldn't find any threads about this topic.

I would like to see some sort of last lap announcement and sign when racing. There are many times when racing online when I have been concentrating on the rear view, cars around me and the mini-map that I totally miss or forget it's the last lap. There are even times that I have thought it was the last lap (when it wasn't) and did a donut at the finish line :ouch:.

So what do you think? Would you like to have an audio tone or voice saying "One to go" or "Last Lap"? Would you also like a visible sign in your field of view and not blocking the racing action that shows you it's last lap? Below the rear view mirror would be a good spot.

P.S. I know the bottom left message box comes up and says so and so crossed the finish line in first blah blah blah but when things get intense, others are joining the room and posting the message box is often ignored.

Thats what you get for trying to show off . Anyway, there's already a lap counter for all this. And even you brought up that there's even that message which shows up in online races that tells you there's one more lap left, so I don't really see the point of something like corny flashing words blinking in your face telling you that there's one lap left.

Well, you could always go and play shift if you need an announcer to tell you it's the last lap, and remind you to breathe in and then out.

I guess in real races a flagman waving the white flag to indicate last lap is also corny? Also, wouldn't a co-driver or spotter let you know when it's the last lap?

P.S. Just checked a youtube vid and the in car view didn't show the message.

This is an example of a worthless troll post 👎.

For the record, you never mentioned anything about people waving white flags at the last lap, you just talked about audio voice or something telling you it's the last lap below the rear view mirror. (Which sounds corny to me :p.) Maybe you could've just said you wanted an inclusion of a grand marshal that waves the green flag and white flag at the start/end of each race.

And that online message which says there's one lap left should show up in any kind of view, even in the interior view. I'm pretty sure it does anyway, maybe you should look for more recent online races and see if that message shows up?

Yeh, online there is a message that shows up when the leader crosses the line on the final lap.

Offline you can just look at the lap count

Dont see any need for what the op wants.

A dude with a checkered flag would be a cool touch to the game though.

I didn't mention a flag person in the OP as it is asking a bit much. I'm just asking for an "in your face" substitute. Like I said, when your in a pack of cars looking in front of you, beside you, at the map and in the review it requires a lot of concentration. The last thing I want to look at is the message board which may or may not be indicating it is the last lap. In real racing there is no message board that tells you its the last lap, when somebody joins the room, a greeting or an immature comment from someone sitting in the room.

Solution? Don't do doughnuts. :sly:

Truthfully, a "last lap" sort of thing in GT5 doesn't really stick with the GT theme. It's supposed to be a somewhat pure simulator, so naturally there won't be anything telling you that it's the last lap.

Well, I'd like an egg in my beer as well, but until my lady gives me others things I ask for and don't receive ............. oh well

As has been said, there is a last lap warning already 👍

Although there's an announcement that appears in the chat pane, I don't think there should be any announcement regarding starting the last lap. In my view, it's part of general racing strategy to be aware of how far there is to go, even if just to know how much you might need to push. And we do already have giant numbers in the corner telling us this info :)

Also, as far as I know the white flag is only used to indicate the last lap in Indycar/NASCAR - in all other forms of car racing that I can think of, it indicates a slow moving car on track...

The whole flag system would be a good addition to the series, but can only see that it would work well if/when damage and weather effects are fully integrated - most of the flags would be rendered pretty useless otherwise!!

Hey hey, there's already something like this. It's called the lap counter, which you see at the top, next to the position number. When the two numbers shown there are the same, you're on the last lap. OK?

I don't see why we would need this, if there were words in my face when it was the last lap, I'd get distracted. And it would also feel more like NFS.

We also have the display up top. For example if there are 5 laps and you're on the last lap, it'll display Lap 4/5. Oh, and don't do donuts at the finish. :p

It could pose a problem for people who have it off via the Quick Options.

But for me though a last lap announcement isn't necessary. Believe me, I am a victim of misinterpreting the last lap in a couple of races. Although it is also not too difficult to add "Last Lap!" text similar to the "Finish!" text.

Trying to count to, say, 73 with the HUD off is not something particularly easy to do while racing. And in the real world, you will have a white flag or finger at the S/F line to remind you as well as your radio constantly reminding you of how many laps are left, and on a pit board. Of course, none of the information you get that way is "simulated" in GT5 so it's not as if this issue is particularly isolated to the last-lap thing. And if I'm running a long race with the HUD off I'll probably break up the flow of the race once in a while to check my HUD to see laps remaining, gaps, fuel et cetera.

It is very nice to know when you have all but won(or gained all you can) and so you can concentrate on simply making it around that one more time. In a timed enduro you know when the time runs out and you just have to bring it home, or when you're close and can be more conservative about managing the gap. It wouldn't be any more distracting to have that message simply say "Final Lap," now would it? The last lap of a long hard race always feels a little special, even if it doesn't in the typical 5-lap mini-sprint.

So it's probably not imperative, but it is a very very common thing to give people an extra reminder of in most racing games. I must say I am very surprised by the amount of hostility to this not particularly unusual or complicated request.

Correct.

They do however have a guy on the Start/Finish line holding a 'Last Lap' board.

A white flag at start/finish line means last lap, anywhere else it means slow moving vehicle. Of course each series may have their own way of flagging, but that's the general convention in most American series I'm aware of. Pretty sure it's more than just IndyCar and NASCAR that use the white flag to signal the final lap, but I do believe it's mostly an American thing. I still think it looks cooler than a finger.

I almost think it may be that a displayed white rather than a waving white at the main flagstand means slow-moving vehicle as well, but I can't say as I've ever actually seen that.

Someone hanging over the wall waving a white flag wouldn't be so bad and a checkered at the end. Might look weird or cheesy on GT5 tho.

I wouldn't mind a "Final Lap" announcement on-screen, or a white flag, but I think I'd rather have a notification when the other drivers are pitting in.

I'm a race marshal and we don't use the white flag over here to indicate final lap so you're probably right that its an American thing.

If I remember rightly, stationary white flag is slow moving vehicle (IE, racecar), waved white is to indicate theres a JCB/recovery vehicle etc on track.

I thought this topic had lap dance in the title name at first glance lol

I voted "I would like both an auditory and visual last lap sign"

Just what is a pure simulator? If it is supposed to be like real racing we wouldn't have a mini-map, message board, music playing or non-team car to car communications.

I've been to plenty of dirt tracks and the flag person gives the drivers the halfway signal, two to go signal, last lap white flag and the checkered flag. I just want a cheap and easy to implement replacement system so I don't have to take my eyes off the road and rear view mirror (center of the screen). Real drivers have a flag person, crew chief, pit crew, spotter or co-driver that gives them these reminders.

So it's probably not imperative, but it is a very very common thing to give people an extra reminder of in most racing games. I must say I am very surprised by the amount of hostility to this not particularly unusual or complicated request.
I'm glad someone else noticed the hostility. I've spent a ton of time in forums over the years and this place has the worst display of fanboyism ever. It's even worse than Traxxas' and Comodo's forums. I wonder how many people don't stick around because of these people? With that said there has been many more constructive posts which gives me hope :).

P.S. I voted for both an auditory and visual signal. I sometimes race with a deaf driver so a better visual sign would benefit him.

A white flag might be useful for some people, but for myself, I'm constantly checking the position of the competition, lap times (increasing/decreasing), and the progression of the race in general... it's important to stay aware of my surroundings no matter where I am or what I'm doing. You might want to get your fix of burnouts/donuts during qualifying or setup before the race, just *please* be sure not to mess up anyone's hot lap while they are flying past you.

I think you'd have to be a bit spesh to really NEED yet another indication that you're on your last lap.
