I'd like to propose a "new" game.

OK folks, we have the Cool Wall (still sorry about that) and various other one-off deals that we do here and in other sub-forums. There is one type I have yet to see though. A full-fledged tournament. Maybe it's because I've been watching College Basketball quite a bit lately, but I've been thinking about it and I think I have a plan (recall 'Tommy Boy' now).

I have two-three main ideas on how to do it, and I'm bringing this up now so that if there is enough interest (I'm not gonna assume anything this time, it bit me last time). Despite my limits, there are probably at least 10 ways to do one, so go nuts.

Idea 1: Car v. Car. This would be a one on one tournament that pairs two cars against each other. depending on seeding and the number of entries, there could be instances where it's Ferrari F50 v. Ford Focus RS. In theory, we could do it by public vote, but it could also use GT, Forza, another game, or use a combination of games to find the winner.

Idea 2: Badge v. Badge. Something more in line with the bracket tournaments I've seen on different sites, specifically when VG Developers are put in one. Example would be BMW v. Mercury. I don't like this one compared to the others, and the only way I see it being decided is by vote.

Idea 3: Team v. Team. OK, this one sorta stuck in my head. What I'm envisioning is a hybrid of the above two, but with at least five cars representing each badge, much like a basketball team. This one can also be the either-or like the first idea, but again I'm thinking of something more complex. Again, hopefully the video game world could make a more agreeable result, but voting could be used to determine the teams and have a say in the results.

Alright, that's the basics. Go ahead and state your opinions or ideas, or state that I am in fact a massive idiot for even trying this.

I did these a while back doing the "Best Car" series. I believe the Porsche 911 took the top spot the first year, and, I'm not quite sure what the second was. You could dig through here and find it, they were quite a bit of fun to do.

It may actually be much easier to do it again using more of a Google Survey kind of thing than through the polls here. Took a while to get through as well, so, patience is a must!

@YSSMAN -- Oh yeah, I remember that. Here's the final vote thread and the result thread from the first year. They're about 6-7 pages back, searching for threads YSSMAN started in the CiG forum with the keywords "best car."

I think the idea of "best" is a little more straightforward to vote and debate upon than the somewhat nebulous idea of "cool." More people are on the same page with what "best" means.

There could be a car of the week.

It could be implemented one of two ways.

The first way would be a fact thread and information, cool stuff, pics etc about a certain vehicle that had the highest score of the 4 or so cars polled per week in the cool wall.

Or we could have a list created by submissions were people vote on the one they want for that week (say limited to 5-6 cars) and it could be featured on the home page etc.

Just did so. 911, Corvette, then the Mini. The way you did it for the 2008 run is how I was envisioning Idea 1.

This is true, but I have some things in mind that, like any real-life competition, could completely change the game.

@Slashfan If you want to try that, go ahead, but it's not what I'm talking about.

Sounds good, sure you can handle the load though? I'm getting a bit tired of the cool wall already, hence why I always put it off 'till way too late. I should hand that off to Jahgee at some point.

The biggest road block on any of these is the lack of feedback. I'd LIKE to do these, but if only 15-or-so get in on it, it will feel like a waste of time because I'm not going to go around and twist everyone's arm trying to get an answer. All in all, about the same as when I was rebooting the Cool Wall.

I'm liking your first idea. Every week two cars and a track are selected which were previously requested by members (like the cool wall). Ex: 458 vs MP4 at Monza. Put up a poll and let people argue for a week about which will be faster. Then have someone take those cars in GT6 do 10-20 laps each and report back with the time splits. Allow for further debate while starting a new thread with 2 more cars:)

My thinking is that I want it to be relatively fair so that, for example, a 69 Charger isn't railroaded by it's opponent, the M3.

And having been exposed to the thinking, or lack of, in the Cool Wall stuff, having it all hinge on a vote just seems counter-intuitive. I have come to the thought that pitting them in a game would be the best way to go, but the cars would need to be readily available(as I don't buy DLC regularly) and I think a set of drivers would be necessitated both in this case and for Idea 3. Lots of details to hammer down, like where it all would be posted, and does it all HAVE to be on GT6?

There has to be a balance between people voting what cars to select but then also selecting cars that will be competitive.

GT6 would be ideal because of its car selection. Don't think it would be fair if you do one lap on Forza and another lap in GT6...

If someone proposes a match between two cars that are in Forza, but only one is in GT, do both laps in Forza. As long as they are labeled as such so that way nobody tries to compare GT laps versus Forza laps, it would work. This way, we get the full selection of cars from GT and Forza.

I was thinking more GT2 or GT4 than Forza, but both would have to be in the games regardless.

Voting the cars in is fine, it's relying on a "Who Wins" vote I'd like to avoid.

That sounds good. Also a interesting way to compare physics. If the MP4 is faster than the 458 in GT6 will it be faster in Forza as well?

We could have people vote on who they think is going to win, and then put the cars through a lap. Best of both worlds. And, really, we could do any two cars that are in the same game. It wouldn't necessarily work as a tournament per se, but an "X VS Y" thing would still be cool.

Hmmm...voting to see who is favored. It could work.

I also think a few drivers would be needed, and that they be swapped out from week to week. And if this is going to cross games, I think we can hold it in the PC and Console section instead of....there:nervous:.
