why not have a system for future gt's where the game runs on real time. i'll explain:

when you load up the game, the ps2/3 will transfer the time registered on the system and put a clock in a corner of the screen(or something like that). then the game will correspond to the time and will run the the game in comparrison to the ps2 clock. so if you are playing in the evening, when you start a race, you will participate in the dark, and another example, when you go to a tune shop or a car dealer, they would either open or closed, depending on the time of day. It may sound a little extreme, but it's just a suggestion.

That would be cool. I reckon it would be cool if you were racing at SSR5 or SSR11 and you qualify in the day time and race at night.

Yes, cool as an idea, but kinda depressing IRL as some of us who have to work and/or have kids will only be able to drive in the evening, with all the shops closed and always driving in the dark.

I'm with ARwin on that. I mostly play between 7 and 10 pm.

It seems that the old PGR ( can't remember the name ..) featured such a time system which seemed to be quite perfect as fans told on other forums so it would be possible.

I also remember that the system was not stupid as you could always also choose the time and not always play at night !

It would be really really great...

and you could also create real championships with real dates and real oponents.. you see real race structures but behind your screen with rules and mandatory dates for practices and hours for time attack sessions. ( like in F1 championship !)

This would be the real power of online games !!!

And for sure, sponsors and real or virtual prices to win !! ( imagine the money advertisers could give to see their name on a world wide shared virtual track !!!!!!)

Everything to build your real race environment at home !!!!

I'm sure this is the future of GT !!!!! would be so perfect !!!

You could join virtual Spa or Lemans and practice anytime and find on the track other players practicing and setting up their cars for next race !!!!!! build your team,

Endless possibilities guys !!!!!! endless....

Imagine the time you would spent in front of your TV !!!

What would happen to people in different timezones? They're racing each other in their own time, i.e. a race set up at 6 in the evening est time, but 3p.m. pacific time. The person on the west would be driving in broad daylight, while the person on the east coast would be driving at sundown. They're both racing at the same time in their respective times, just...not lol

Ooops, I forgot about the real time thing! So that wouldn't be a good idea after all. But if it wasnt in real time you couldhave that like in indy car series at las vagas I tghink it is.

why not just set the time you want?... weather...?

Real time seems a good idea, real weather also.

Maybe we should just get a real car and do real racing on a real track ??? (Except that I would have died a thousand times in terrible crashes before I can complete 100% of the races).

The main thing I would expect for future GT game is
TO BE RELEASED ON SCHEDULE !!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

flat out, making a game isn't THAT simple. I'd rather wait and have a quality game then have some buggy piece of crap.

The old PGR was metropolis street racer on the dreamcast, not a bad game imo.

I like the real time idea but I would like for the Shops to be 24 hour, just like few Autozone's here in Vegas. And I used to play GT2 on my days off from 4pm til 3am.

I can imagine what making a game is about, I'm in the software business and I know this from the inside. Planned release dates are never the same as effective release dates, but in that case, I'm just happy I can be the customer for once and I can violently protest again this...
Ok, that's mere revenge I must admit ;)

So from what I've seen, this is about real-time and real-weather? Nitro_2003, first, congratulations on 1,000 posts. Now let me provide a "real-time" example.

I have "NCAA Football 2004." When you can choose what time of day you want to play football, you can choose betweenNoon, Afternoon, Evening, Night, and a time based on your PS2's clock. So since I play mostly in the late night, I had to change my clock so that I get daytime games to play. So in that case, I switched my time settings with Japan's time. I kind of needed to do that so I could play with the clock in Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3. So if GT4 uses a system like this when it comes to time, I don't know. If you raced at 5 AM in the morning in GT4, would you race Grand Valley while the sun is coming up over the horizon?

Based on real-time and my NCAA Football game, I figured I'd close my reply with a weird story. I played a game of NCAA Football 2004 as the PS2 clock shown "7 AM or maybe 6:30 AM." As it turned out, I played the Continental Tire Bowl. As the game was going on, I could see the sun shining over the horizon. So instead of playing a college football game when students should really be getting up and eating breakfast, somehow... the students, fans, and football players seemed like they were watching college football WITH EMPTY STOMACHS! Much in the same way, imagine a GT4 race at 4AM in the morning, and the stands are filled like it's the Super Bowl. So, a real-time deal like what I mentioned would be cool, but weird if you play at later times. Only thing is, if I were to race a TVR Speed 12 through the wee hours of morning, I wonder how many people would actually wake up hearing its loud roar. Talk about a wake-up call... heh.

When I played Metropolis Street Racer, I had to change the clock, otherwise if you play the game at roughly the same time everytime, the time of day of the races never change.

I did enjoy playing Le Mans 24 Hours, over a simulated 24 Hours. It made a nice change for the light to fade into night, then back to day. If a Sega Dreamcast could do it, I don't see why a PS2 can't do it.

That's got me thinking about LM24 Hours, I haven't played it for years. I may get that out later, and stoke up the Dreamcast, which hasn't been on for over a year. Hope it still works.:)

It would be good for some of the longer GT4 races to change from day/night or night/day. Also, stick in a few changes in weather. It'd be good to have a dry line appearing on a drying track, or the mad rush for tyres when it starts to rain.

But then I think they could make tyre wear more realistic anyway, I was always disappointed by the way the tyres worked in previous games.

Le Mans 24 Hrs is available on PS2 too. I think it has the advantage of supporting a wheel too btw.

You haven't played Le Mans 24 Hours in a while? Where have you been?

Maybe if real-time effects were being used, here are some endurance examples:

New York: Late afternoon to night
Fuji: afternoon to sunset
Citta di' Aria: ??? to ??? (sorry, no idea)

Now, what would make for a nice feature is the racing deal I discussed earlier. You can't do this, however, if there was a track system in which you can build your own championship for some amount of money, you can choose what times of day you want to race and maybe the weather. Now, here is a common mistake I seen in "J & L Stock Car Racing" that was corrected by the "FIFA World Cup" games. Okay, just because it is nighttime doesn't mean there is no rain in sight. It rains at night. Sure as hell did last weekend here in Houston and some of the southeast US. Any time of day, any weather conditions. But in terms of weather, I'd love to race the Swiss Alps course in snow, either that or some other rally course in snow. Why? Snow is fun.

well there will be a snow course in gt4, so youre prayers ahve benn answered, johnbm01

There is a God... I can't wait for GT4!!! I may sound like a newcomer, but even I am jacked about this.

... would be to put some kind of device on the cars of a real race, that sends their postions on the track to the web. From there they transferred in realtime to a videogame, lets say gt6 .. Hehe ... So you actually take part in a real race. Technically this should not be a huge problem, i actually read an article about the future of formula one where they were talking exactly about that. Now that would be fun. And when you hear PD talk about how close the laptimes within gt4 are compared to the real world, gameplaywise this should work as well ... Sorry guys, just dreaming

Hong Kong at night would be cool, but I think PD are designing it to be set at dusk. Great sunset, but kind of annoying as the fading light and resulting haze don't really give the buildings on the island a chance to really show off the incredible impression they give when it's dark and all their lights are on.

I really hope they do put realtime lighting in GT4 though. I could just imagine driving an endurance race in HK. Starting off in late afternoon with the deep blue sky and sun reflecting of the buildings and harbour. Then progressing into early evening , when the sun begins to set like an egg yolk at the far end of the harbour and the sky turns a deep pink/purple. Next, the sun has dropped out the sky completely and the focus turns from the harbouside sections of the track to the bright neon glow of the countless signs along Nathan 'The Golden Mile' Road, engine screaming at nine thousand RPM, tyres scrabbling fo grip on the exit of the hairpin by the..........Sorry, I think I lost myself a bit there!

Anyway, stick in the realtime lighting, PD. You know it makes sense!

This wouldn't work, because if you hit another car or another car hits you in the game it's not going to happen in the real race so the only way of doing this would be for all the real cars in the race to be unbudgeable on any impacts with game cars so if you smack into one or one smacks into you your car would go spining off and theirs wouldn't even shake, also the cars in the real race are going to be racing themselves and not you, they won't see you, and they won't care about you so you'll be smaked all over the place in the game.

Oh yeah, so it is. It's not at dusk at all. My mistake!

Even in GT4 it'd be cool... but i'd really like a 'paint' and 'body works' shop, where you can change the car's colour and add effects/stickers. In GT3, there is like 2 cars non-GT racing that have stickers... (NSX race and another one)...

It'd be fun to be able to change the colour of your car (for a fee) even if you bought it at a colour... I know its a very small detail, but it makes for very personnal car effects and adds to personnal replays.

Some people call Hong Kong the New York of the Far East. And based on that picture above, you have a small indication why. Of course, to REALLY see Hong Kong, either go there yourself, or look at some Jackie Chan movie I can't remember what the name of it was. Anyhow, the picture Chaser got is actually much darker than that. He just increased the gamma level of the picture, and I know because I, myself, work with computer art. Anyhow, I don't know about Hong Kong in the daytime, but surely at night, it is a marvelous sight.

Speaking of Asian cities, I still wonder how Tokyo's Akasaka (or Akasuka, I usually confuse the two, but in GT3, you race around Akasaka) is looking. There's even talk of Paris being mentioned in the game. Same goes for London... Most of the well-known cities should make for some interesting lighting shows, given that there are night races in all of them. London is a maybe for a spectacular lighting show (unless they use lightning bolts... it rains a lot on the British Isles, you know).

Well, I have nothing else but questions and curiousity. They will all be answered by GT4's release. Even if it means we'll have to invest in ordering GT4 from Japan after taking Japanese classes, we'll see what is in the final product before some "Gran Turismo 5" threads are released.

Don't you worry, JohnBM01. I wouldn't stoop so low as to doctor an image to prove a point. That pic was the way I found it. I live in Hong Kong, and it is magnificent at night.

By the way, here's another pic of the HK circuit from Tsim Sha Tsui looking to Central Plaza (the 2nd tallest building in HK) in Wan Chai. If you look in the background, you will once again see that it's not dark, just dusk. The reason why everyone thinks it is set at night is because on the built up sections of circuit the fading light doesn't penetrate to the roads because the sun isn't high enough in the sky. By all accounts, with the circuit set at dusk the lights of the buildings in the background will not be switched on.

I hope all this happens however with all the sponsorship and real and virtual prizes I can't see it being easy for an average skilled joe to even have permission to be able to qualify for such a big virtual racing event. The top races with the biggest prizes will be only for the best of the best GT5 (or 6) players. This would probably make up about 5% of all gt players. so i'm assuming you'd need to be pretty damn good to even get close to competing in one of those races.

Too get around this It would be good if there was some type of ranking system so you can "progress through the ranks" with each win etc..
bigger races yield bigger points, so if your at the top you can get away with winning 1 big race and having a whole week off from competing and still not have some beginner who has been playing the game non stop for 5 days and accumulated heaps of points from winning heaps of little amatuer races to come and take your spot in the top 50

whoa thats a mouthfull.. but i think you get my jist here..

I have a feeling San Marco will appear and Paris too. I'm not sure if you saw this John but I posted this a while go -> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37505 beware 56k!

We can only speculate.

I'm not really sure what I would want in future GT's because I've been satisfied. There are only a few niggly things, in GT3 when you went to an Arcade race and chose a car from your garage you couldn't change its settings unless you went to a free run first. This was fixed in GT Concept and made my life all the more merry!

What I would like has already been mentioned, basically I'd like to be able to fast forward through a replay, with a timeline too to skip ahead in greater amounts. I’d also like the ability to pause or view the replay in slow mo while you drool at the spectacular backdrop of Honk Kong as you pull a clean manoeuvre past someone, with the ability to rotate the camera around a chosen vehicle or point around them. Awesome.
