Has anyone thought about VPN? Would it be possible for someone to host a server so users can connect to it and play over the net? Obviously you would need 2 network cards in your pc. One to connect to your router, and connect the other one to the PS3. Im sure there is an option in windows that allows you share internet connections between network cards.

There has to be someone on here who knows more than me about VPNs. than me.

Would this be possible, or am i completely holding the wrong end of the stick?

or we could wait for an update with private rooms because that seems a bit complicated

GT5P doesn't have a lan option, only online.
Otherwise that would probably be possible.

Thats what VPN does. it emulates a lan network over the internet. Its not hard all you would need is the hosts IP address and a password Once connected all you would need to do is just start an online game as you would normally do over the internet.

You'd still need to connect to the PD server which is the part that does the player matching. Each individual machine (vpn'd or otherwise) would make a remote connection and the PD server makes the decision on who races who. It's not as straightforward as just hooking each machine up and expecting them to see each other. There is no player matching ability ps3-side

Ahh, I see the point your making. I was thinking the PS3 with the fastest internet connection became the host and was deciding who gets to play who. I didn't know there was a central server that manages the individual connections. Oh well. I guess were going to have to wait for PD to bring out the update.

And this is why it can take upwards of 5 minutes to join a race....

I have an idea that I already use occasionally. Send invitations to drivers that you like to race with then add them as friends. Trade telephone numbers then coordinate which races and when you want to race (even decide whether to drive the same or different cars). Just before the race coordinate the time at which you all want to log into the event so you make the same race event.

I've also found that by adding people to my friends list, I can see when they are on line (blue dot) and the little comment below the dot tells me which game they are playing on line. If they are playing GT5p, I look for them in the races that they usually prefer (I keep a list).

I think the telephone is the closest we are going to be able to get to a private race until they make private rooms for racing.
