...and to (sort of) solve the qualifying. If PD really doesn't want to put qualifying in the game for some reason though.
Instead of sorting the starting grid by PP and putting the fastest car first and the player last, it might be better to just randomize the starting grid. This way the fastest car would sometimes start last, and has to drive to first place. The AI rarely overtakes other AI, because their cars are always slower than the one in front of them and their driving skills are all exactly the same.
Lets face it - the player will always become first anyway. If the AI is also overtaking other cars it might be less boring than 16th to 1st in a couple of laps while overtaking what seems to be a funeral procession on rails. And the fastest car won't get to instantly drive away in the first lap only to slow down in the last lap to let the player win.
One final thought: please add personalities for AI. In Arcade Mode, it's possible to adjust the temper of the AI on a scale of 1 to 10. If Career Mode's drivers randomly get a temper from that scale, it might be interesting to see the battles between aggressive drivers in slow cars and Sunday drivers in fast cars.
It won't be very realistic, but neither is an AI who qualifies perfectly (except if they're slow cars), who rubberband and who are as interesting as watching paint dry.
