so, in the mag I have been given a monthly section called "impossible dreams" in wich I get to create in photoshop a very unlikely or next to impossible car, we kicked it off with a Ferrari SUV you can see @ Autoblog:

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/26/rendered-pointless-the-ferrari-sport-futility-vehicle/

and WolrdCarFans:

http://www.worldcarfans.com/9090123.025/ferrari-suv-rendered-yet-again

Basicaly the premise is creating a render of a very impossible car or a very difficult car to hit production, I am right now doing a mid engine BMW supercar wich you'll see when it's published, but right now I'd like to have more ideas to present to the guys in the mag, so I again ask the denizens of GTP: What do you think car makers should do but never would, or if they would, it would be a world-upsetting surprise? hit me up, anything from 4 door sports cars to the next itteration of a car to, say, reviving a long forgotten name to shooting brake variants, just talk to me.

Example: we already did a hot hatch from Porsche, but not for the section, this was based on a rumor:

So get wild and ask away, I may do whatever you tell me to do in the near future (:

A mid-engine Corvette would be awesome, even though I'm pretty sure artists have toyed around with it before. Very nice work on the photoshops, they're really convincing.

A Hummer city car.
Introducing, the HUMMER EV 2010.

Der nue Volkswagen Schwimmwagen.

Would be awesome.

hahaha the Schwimwagen would be awesome indeed, but I doubt the mag will let me do it, hahahaha

the midships Corvette may be, but not as a Corvette, as a GM offering

The hummer city car would be absolutely bizarre, but I'll try, hahah

As for the Smart truckie thing, that's the most impossible after the anfibian VW, I think, haha

Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini minivan! :p

Porsche already had a minivan concept in the late 80's but decided not to (at least not yet) actually produce the car.

They also had the Panamera concept from about the same time period so who knows maybe they eventually will.

Here is their minivan concept (Varrera):

Lamborghini has the Estoque and Porsche has the Panamera so I don't really see the need for a minivan... Or I just hope Porsche doesn't put the Varrera into production (like they did the 989) and I don't really care what Lamborghini does...

Close, the 456GT Estate (full name might be the 456 Venice Estate Speciale). Yes, they built 7 of them, the owner instructed Sergio Pininfarina to make a run of 7. And he owns 6. Actually I should mention the owner is Prince Jeffrey of Brunei. You can buy the seventh though, if you have enough money.

GM will probably never offer a mid-engine Corvette. They have toyed with that idea (in the 60s...in the 70s (especially), and then revived in the 80s which almost got built) building all sorts of prototypes with a 454 V8 to a 4-rotor wankel rotary engine. In the end, it would cost too much.

Impossible oncoming cars? A Chrysler anything.

A BMW Mini-van... One BMW Marketing VP told me once that BMW will never build a people-mover. Can't make them handle. (which didn't stop them making the X5 and the 7-series, apparently)

Lol yeah. BMW never make a Minivan? 30 years ago people never though Porsche would actually produce an SUV. Companies always say things like that but if things get tough or they become desperate they will do anything. And isn't the Cayenne faster than a lot of BMW's? The Turbo S is 4.7 0-60 and probably has pretty good handling for it's size.

Faster is a relative term. When it comes to corners, the X6 is actually better... though we won't know until some third party takes the twin-turbo V8 X6 and the Cayenne Turbo to a racetrack to find out.

I haven't driven the Cayenne Turbo on-road (just off), but the X6 definitely feels more nimble

EDIT: not that either of these two power-mongers would be able to keep up with "slower" sports cars on a racetrack... it'd be fun trying, though...

EDIT2: I'd like to request something wacky... two-door X6 convertible.

Cars I would like to see that won't be built? I think a rear-engined car on the Golf platform would be awesome, built by either (or both) Porsche and Volkswagen.

And that Microbus thing they had a few years ago was pretty cool. What kind of VW fan wouldn't like a classic, rear engined minivan. It'd be much better than the Routan.

BMW never make a Minivan?

It nearly happened, that is, until the R-Class fell flat on its face. I seem to recall the idea being kicked around for years beforehand, saying that this would be the new wave in transportation that they would need to cash in on. It makes me wonder if the X6 is some kind of bastard love child of the program, I have no idea, but if BMW gets into the minivan game, you can bet your ass it will probably wear an MINI badge and pop shots at the Mazda 5.

Here are more:

Any attractive car with a Chrysler badge on it
Smart Recreational Vehicle

I quite like these two, because I was thinking just today, could the Fiat Punto be the new basis for a reborn Dodge Omni?

If minivans were the suddenly popular enough to command 30% of the buyer's market, you bet BMW will make one, once the craze is in full swing. The X6 and X3 are proof enough of that, and 15 years ago, everyone scoffed at the idea of any luxury automaker making SUVs, save Land Rover and Laforza.

Of course, they'll call it a Sport Activity Mover, or something like that.
