I and a few friends have been experimenting with multiplayer leagues and tournaments. Along the way we found lots of things we can do to make the experience more enjoyable and fun. I'd like to post some of these.

-Obviously the first and the biggest problem is the fact that any garage cars used in multiplayer will not have ASM & TCS. So the way to go is to improve all the aspects of the cars that help the handling and leave the power for last. Then increase the power step-by-step, while testing every time to ensure that the car will still be drivable.

-Another thing to remember is that in multiplayer a garage road car, no matter how well is tuned, will only be able to have sports tyres (even if in GT mode the car is equipped with racing tyres). Only garage racing cars can use racing tyres. This is something else that needs to be taken into account.

- There could be a cash limit like 50K/100K/250K and a certain manufacturer, or country or even model of car. There could be a cap on the adjustable parts so only parts that don't require any actual setup can be used. Or there could be a limited time of 5min for the setup with the track of the player's choice enabling adjustable parts to be used. Once every player has made his car choice and is ready these same cars could be used on a selection of tracks, voted by every participant player and leagues and cups can be set up which can last days or even weeks.

- Making collections of closely matched cars is a good idea, use B-spec and pick a 3 track selection, try to have the tracks as different as possible, then keep upgrading say 4 cars and tuning them until their lap times are almost identical. This will make for very close and fun races that can sometimes be won on that last corner or straight. These replays will also be fantastic to watch.

Of course there are many more ideas and suggestions that can make the multiplayer mode more fun, more enjoyable and more competitive. Please post your ideas, suggestions, experiences and opinions. Together we can improve multiplayer mode in GT4.

I did a search but I could not find anything that matched this subject, however I apologise in advance if this topic has already been discussed.

Uhmmmm.... you can enable tcs and asm by selecting a non garage car first, then selecting from your garage.

We tend to match era's, and rough power weight figures, usually ends up making for good racing. The tires seem top be very era dependant, so matching a 70's muscle car against a new Skyline will not work if they have the same p/w figure.

Yes matching era cars is a good idea, we sometimes try and older era though, just to see how they would perform against a modern car.

As for enabling TCS and ASM the way you mentioned I've never seen or heard anyone managing to get it to work in 2 player or LAN. I just had another try (probably my 100th unsuccesful try to find a way to enable TCS and ASM in multiplayer :()following your steps and it still doesn't work. The little triangle with the exclamation mark has to flash. It's possible to have TCS and ASM on a non-garage car against a garage car (which will have no option for TCS and ASM nor will it be enabled). Also that doesn't help if both cars are garage cars.

The tyres are not era dependent. The tyres are dependent only on if the car is a racing car or a road car. The most grip tyres a normal car can have are sports/soft while a racing car can go up to racing/super soft.

Thanks for your post, did you find any of the ideas I posted useful? Have you had any good multiplayer races? Post some cars you found match really well. Feel free to ask any questions too. :)

EDIT: While on the subject of experiences keep some memento of your multiplayer races. Some pictures or if you have a TV-in on your PC video card or just a digital camera for video replays.

I don't know about LAN, but it works just fine for split screen. By the tires being era dependant I meant that normal sport tires, for instance, squeal more and have less grip, even allowing for suspension differences, eg under braking on a very smooth track, for older cars than newer. This means that equal power/weight ratios will lead to some very uneven races :) Other than that, yeah some ideas for multi race compettions I'm gonna steal from you.

You're welcome mate. :) Let me know how things go.

Try Seattle with american muscle cars, the replays look awesome too.

callaway C12 vs. mustang cobra r on seattle. lightly tuned. lots of fun. great replays.

Oh yes the Callaway C12 beautiful car I've been meaning to get one, I have the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R in red with a nice set of alloy wheels, spoiler and a medium tune. I'm going to suggest we try those 2 cars against each other this week. Seattle is great for drifting/power sliding, it also has some car jump places and some high speed straights. Really good all-round track.

I have to say though that my favourite original tracks are Midfield and Trial Mountain. It's interesting how different cars perform from track to track. I posted my last 2 player gaming session on another thread and 2 of the cars involved were RUF RGT and BMW M3 GTR, both cars with a light tune, spoilers (well actually the RUF RGT could not have an adjustable spoiler fitted) and alloy wheels. On Midfield the RUF wins some times due to it's better acceleration and top speed but on Trial Mountain the BMW wins every time due to it's adjustable spoiler improving grip and while the RUF is a more powerful car it's hard to keep the power down in those tight corners.

2 Other cars we tried were the Subaru Impreza PSC 22B-STI vs. Mitsubishi Evolution VI GRS TME. With light tuning these cars can be closely matched in every aspect. Stick OZ alloy wheels that match the rally cars based on these 2 models and some nice spoilers and you'll get some fantastic cat-and-mouse races with super close finishes.

I'm currently setting up Jaguar XKR R-Performance, Aston Martin DB9 Coupe, Mercedes SL65 AMG for our next set gaming session as this time there will be 3 of us.

There's a quick summary of my last 2 player game, cars used and the outcome on the above thread. :)
