I purchased a PS3 last week. My brother already has GT5 and I wish to play it on this PS3. Is there a way to transfer the installed game files and updates to my PS3 from his PS3, without it deleting the game files and saves that are currently on my PS3?

game data should be transferable easily enough but if you want a save game from another PS3 to work you will have to create an account on the new PS3 with the same PSN ID as the save game had on its original PS3. If you want your brothers game save, you will have to create an account with his PSN ID on your new playstation and install the save game on that account.

Game data, not save data.

No. All the updates will need to be downloaded and installed on that machine too. There's a possibility that the Platinum/Greatest Hits GT5 will contain all the updates up to Spec 2 when it comes out, but I can't say for sure.

Well damn diddely do. That doesn't seem very respectful to people with limited bandwidth. Oh well. Thanks for answering!

When you play gt5 on the new ps3 connected to the internet it will install the game data and updates but for the game save, the only way to make that work would be to have psn+and do the cloud save feature and you would have to have the same ID.

I'm trying to not have to download all of the updates again so I do not tear through my monthly data limit.

I think I'll look into that platinum version of GT5. I saw a few copies at EB games the other day.

Don't game updates just add on to the game data? Otherwise what would the point be in Sony giving you the choice to update via the internet or by storage media? unless that only applies to system updates and not game updates.

Yeeeees?

You need to install the game from the disc (which is v1.03, I recall) and then download and add each patch sequentially.

You can update firmware by downloading it on your PC, downloading it to a flash drive and then uploading and installing it on the PS3. You cannot do that with game updates - they have to be done through the console. And, either way, you still have to download it!
