If you also suck at trail braking...

Someone turned me onto brakinglab.com yesterday. It's basically a web app that reads your pedal (or controller) inputs via USB and has a bunch of braking and throttle exercises that read your inputs live as you try to match a telemetry trace on screen. The app tracks your accuracy and gives a score. There are a bunch of other features on the site, but I only played around with the free braking exercises so far, and I'm really liking it as I try to recalibrate my brain and my left foot to improve at often garbage trail braking.

I often find that I have trouble rolling my foot back off from full braking during certain maneuvers, leading to me trail braking with still too much force.

I think a lot of the issue is that I'm sitting on a rolling office chair that can move around and thus I can't use my leg as much as my ankle, since the former will simply push the chair back after a while. We have super high-pile, plush carpet, but the chair still does move over time. I really need to make up either a tray for the wheels (my stand does have weld nuts at the back, seemingly for exactly that...which they do not sell), or a stand for an actual seat (I have four actual vehicle seats in the basement I could use) that I can attach to those and then not have a disconnect between the stand and the seat.

But that obviously isn't everything, will need to check that on out. Just the mediocre ability in trail braking I have right now transformed my lap times in TTs, licenses and circuit experiences (as well as actual races), so honing that would be outstanding.

Hey, Roberto here, braking lab creator.

Thanks for sharing the app, it means a lot to me. Glad you find it useful! Feel free (any of you of course) to shoot me a dm or reply if you have any doubts/questions/suggestions.

Great app, and saludos desde Barcelona!

How can we submit a lap from Gt7?

Thank you, glad you like it!

Una de mis ciudades favoritas sin duda, a la que he ido mil veces. Tengo familia allí.

Regarding GT7, is there any way in which telemetry can be exported as CSV?

Me alegro :)

I'm using Telemetry Racing and it seems it doesn't have an export option, maybe Coach Dave Academy.

That's a good one!

If coach dave has it, it can be exported somehow.

How do you guys "connect" Coach Dave and GT7?

Through PS5 IP address, sharing the same network. In Coach Dave I used the phone app. With telemetry racing I use it on the windows PC.

Good to meet you, Roberto! Strong work!

I'm a few days in now, and I'm really enjoying the app. The exercises are challenging and gamifying them by keep score is motivating to use the app more to try to improve. One other convenient feature of the app is I used it to troubleshoot my Fanatec CSL load cell brake pedal which I suspect has a bad load cell sensor.

I have a small YT channel and it's on my list to do a video on the app soon.

I have one braking exercise suggestion... A few months ago I used ChatGPT to create a web page to help me learn brake pressure and it might be worth considering something similar for your app. The page has a start and stop button and a 4 minute timer. On start, the page displays and uses a synthetic voice to shuffle the values 10, 25, 50, 75, and 90 which correlate to brake pressure. The app calls out a new value every 7 seconds or so, I forget the exact value.

When a value is called out, I try to hit that pressure on my brake without looking, then glance up and if I got it right, I hit the space bar to record a point scored. If I got the pressure wrong, I do nothing, no point scored. The app then tracks my accuracy until the timer is up.

I thought it was an idea worth mentioning, but no worries if it's not a good fit for you.

Thank you, DR!

I'm glad you find it useful. That's the goal.

It's ironic that to master speed...we need to master braking. What a mix of science and art.

Just subscribed to your YT channel. Even though I'm not into GT series these days (though I have 200h in GT7), the original GT was my first racing game and I'll be forever tied to it in one way or another.

Your suggestion is great. And given the infrastructure I already have for exercises, I think I could implement it very soon.

Added to the backlog straight away.

Will let you know when it's finished and I'll drop a thank you line mentioning you in the changelog.

I can implement also customization regarding duration, scoring threshold, variation/difficulty...It's also great to analyze reaction time.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It looks like Coach Dave Delta only exports files in their proprietary .delta format. Gemini says you could potentially use Motec software to import that file and then export as CSV, but that'll take some digging into.

Thank you, DY!

That sounds awesome!

Sadly, can't try if from my side.

Could you try it using the PS navigator and see if it detects the gamepad/brake pedals?
I tried using the navigator and it didnt work. I did a few laps on ACC (PC), and its very good. Seeing some small improvements.

Hey!

I've just deployed several new features and improvements, including your suggestion.

It's a new type of exercise called "Pressure callouts" that comes with a fairly similar one called "Pressure steps" (a suggestion from the Almeida Racing Academy co-founder).

You can access them from the free practice screen, being shown like this in the exercise dropdown:

Also, you can create custom exercises based on this pattern from the "Create custom exercise" screen, by selecting the type you want:

The app is still in beta, so it's possible you find issues or stuff not working as it should.

In case you experience errors/inconsistencies, you can report them from the feedback button at the bottom right corner.

Hope you like it and thank you so much for your suggestion!

I can't wait to try this!

Glad to hear!

Let me know what you think and if you have any more feedbaxk/suggestion, shoot!
I tried it for a bit using a controller yesterday, and I like what you've done with this. I'll get on with my brake pedal this weekend and spend some more time. I super appreciate you implementing this so quickly!
