I contracted Wilco Machiels, an ex engineer for Porsche, and now full time model maker to do me a diorama for my new sim racing room. I wanted a scene from the early 70s Martini Racing Porsche winning cars. If you don't know who this guys is head over to Wilcodioramas.com and check out his work. The level of detail is truly amazing, and photo don't really do it justice. The diorama is about 32 inches wide, by 11 inches tall and 9.5 inches deep. It contains over 70 LED lights to simulate the garage lights and even the TV crew spot light functions. There are just so many things going on in this scene including a couple hidden things you really have to look to see. Anyway, check it out.

Thats actually a lot cheaper than I would have guessed. Much cheaper than buying some genuine art piece from a professional artist at auction, and much more attention grabbing. About how long did this take him?

A year. The piece not only has the custom racing Porsche's with full interior, engine, etc, but several other vehicles, fully stocked garage, office, people, its just amazing the level of detail. I look at it so long and keep noticing stuff.

A bargin at $2500, easily. Such a nice guy as well. Class act.

Looks really awesome.

€ 2500,- is a real bargin.

The guy must do this for a hobby (because he only charged you 2500) , the amount of detail unbelievable.

👍

As a Porsche and model 'liker', I really like this.

But does this belong in the sim racing hardware forum?

:0
Holy snot.

Insane detail indeed. You should really really try and get some really good pictures of it. Like if you know someone who is into photography, ask him/her to do a full shoot of it, well lit and all that, because it is truly an amazing piece. And share them, of course (:

And yes, I also think $2,500 is quite a good price for all the work that's gone onto it. It's incredible!

Yeah I took those pics with my camera on my tablet LOL. Thing sucks.

I will take more pics once its mounted into the wall of the sim racing room.

👍 Epic piece of workmanship.

Is it 1/24th scale with the vehicles based on readily available kits?

Thanks, and yes 1:24 scale is all Wilco works in. The most detailed kits seem to be 1:24 for some reason. I'm going to contract him to make me a 356B racing diorama, and hopefully a LeMans pit lane diorama if he has the time.

He uses off the shelf 1:24 kits, and then fabricates extensive additional parts using all types of materials. Dudes a boss.

I'd love to have something like this in my "boyz only room" when my girlfriend and I soon have a house to ourselves.

Seeing that my post was removed, I'm going to say what I said before (not literally because I can't remember exactly what I said).

I like Porsche a lot and I like your model as well. It's is incredible detailed and very nice to look at. I've have always liked models;

cars

planes

landscapes, mostly from WWOII.

Are those little lights part of the model?

I've gotten some messages on this forum and a couple of others about the quality of the photos. Sorry about that I took the photos with my tablet as my digital SLR was stolen on the subway. Once I have it mounted I'll try to get some real detailed shot.

Kikie, yes the lights are all part of the model, it has a power plug coming out of the back. There are literally dozens of lights on the ceiling, the mechanics drop lights, the TV crews spot light, various lights inside the office, its all pretty amazing the attention to detail that Wilco goes to.

It was a pleasure dealing with him as he asked me exactly what I was looking for.

I'm going to contract him to make me a 356B racing team garage and hopefully the most impressive of them all a 1970s LeMans pit lane with various manufacturers, classes, etc. Can't wait.

On a somewhat related note, I just bought a 1/350 Space Battleship Yamato for my studio/Office. I am a huge computer animation digital art person and do it as a hobby. In my new home I have a gigantic 22x20 art studio and I'm going to have the Space Battleship built by a professional model builder and he is going to weather it and age it. I'll post pics once that project is complete. :D

The level of detail in this is absolutely stunning. I love old Porsche race cars. You're very lucky to get such a beautiful, high-quality diorama. I can't wait to see the detailed shots!

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, HUGE Leiji Matsumoto fan in here. That's awesome. Please pleeeease tag me up when you have it done and have pics of it so I can drool around.

Cano same here. There is a guy here in the States who specializes in building these complex models and weathering them. Wilco works mostly in small 1:24 scale and the guy here in the USA works in huge giant scale. Some of his stuff is incredible. He has a Starship Enterprise with over 300 LED lights in it. Can't wait to fill my office with this stuff. LOL

pics? link? :0

Can you remove the glass/plastic cover and take photos? The reflection of the glass/plastic cover makes it harder to admire this piece of art properly.

Holy hell. The amount of detail is just spectacular. Find myself particularly drawn to the car trailer, darn thing looks so real! Big thanks for taking the time to share the pics. 👍

Kikie, I am currently in the process of finishing my new simulator room in my new home. this thing will have a permanent place in the wall there, right now I can't take the front glass off because that entire assembly is bolted together. Once I'm ready to put it in its final place I'll take some better pics, sorry for the delay.
