2. Which Car you're using. (Only 3 drivers can choose the same car)
3. Send a Friend Request to PSN:FLsurffisher if not already connected.

Start Procedures
- The start of race one will be fastest first - so get on the track and run laps to qualify for your start position.
- Races 2 & 3 will be reverse grid.

Scoring
To win the Championship you must participate a min of 3 of the 4 weeks.
Your top 4 scores will be applied to the RM Championship. The DTM scoring formula. The points for the top-eight positions are awarded according to the following system: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. There are neither void results nor extra points for pole positions or fastest race laps. The winner is the driver with the highest point total for all three races.

How it works
Dave finishes 3rd, 9th and 1st for the 3 races. He earns 6, 0 and 10 pts for a total of 16pts for the event. Ed finishes 2nd, 4th and 7th his points are 8, 5 and 2 for a total of 15pts. Dave gets first place overall with Ed getting 2nd. Dave would get the 10 1st place points towards the Championship and Ed would get 8.

1st = 10 pts
2nd = 8
3rd = 6
4th = 5
5th = 4
6th = 3
7th = 2
8th = 1

The Rules
1. THE TOP PRIORITY IS CLEAN DRIVING

a. Don't be in such a hurry. Most incidents happen at the beginning of a race. With drivers in a hurry to get to the front of the pack. Its a mini endurance. You'll have a chance to catch up.

b. First keep in mind you're on COLD tires; they don't handle well until they warm up. Take your time.

c. Second, the guy who jumps out ahead is not normally the guy who wins. After the turn the cars behind usually "draft" ahead of the leader. It's not necessary to have the early lead. This is a mini-endurance you've got time.

d. Use caution when passing in tight areas. If you cause an incident you may not faulter but you will get a 30 sec penalty for each incident caused.

e. If you're being passed hold your line and let the faster car go around you. You may not need to WIN the race to win the series or championship. These are mini-endurance races in which strategy plays a role. The #1 rule is to avoid knocking your opponent off the road. Again a 30 second time penalty is applied for each incident you cause.

2. When returning to the track look to make sure you are not pulling out infront of another car. Set your arrow buttons to give you both left and right view.

3. Rule #3 - Refer to rule #1 & 2.

4. Don't cut the chicanes or the corners. Always have either both right or both left tires on the track at all times when going around corners or chicanes. Cutting could add 2 seconds to your time for each infraction. Depends on the severity and number of infractions during the race.

5. Passing
The Car Infront
a. Has the right to the line.
b. Maintain your line do not maneuver to cut-off the passing car.
c. Once passed you can maneuver to catch the draft of the car that passed.

The Car behind
a. Is responsible for a clean pass.
b. Do not bump as you pass or bump draft.
c. You can draft, just don't make contact.
d. Use care if passing on a corner; most incidents happen here.

6. REMEMBER - Clean Driving - High Speed battles are fun only if we're not bumping into one another.

Race Incidents
1. Please, the objective is a clean, competitive, fun, challenging race. Use care, use caution not to hit the cars around you.
2. If you feel you're the victim of a race incident:
a. First save the replay that's located under the podium icon.
b. View the replay to get better perspective on what happened.
c. Send me a PM concerning the incident, specifying which lap the infraction occured on.

Practice Procedures
a. One hour to thirty minutes prior to start time track three will be available for practice laps.
b. From thirty minutes prior to start time track #2 will be available for practice laps.
c. When start time is reached a 15 minute qualification period commences on track #1.
d. The Event will start 15 minutes after the hour.

Awesome idea, I saw your post about historic cars, I'd suggest using sport softs instead of racing hard tyres though 👍

Other than that I'd like to join :) not sure what car to pick yet though.

and uhmm, the 2D can never reach 990kg, 971kg max

Some more info just from building the cars now (I built them all to the 971kg limit after finding out about the chaparral)

Chaparral 2D: 502hp-971kg-PP613
Jaguar XJ13: 502hp-998kg-PP606 (could not get any weight off this car)
Ferrari 330 P4: 502hp-971kg-PP598
Chaparral 2J: 502hp-971kg-PP590
Ford GT40 1969: 502hp-998kg-PP586

I don't have the Mk IV to test but as far as I can tell there's some serious balance issues here, maybe a PP limit would be better?

I limited it to 590PP (silly Ford GT40 not allowing me to get it to reach 600 :( ) and got these results:

Chaparral 2D: 431hp-971kg-590PP
Jaguar XJ13: 469hp-998kg-590PP
Ferrari 330 P4: 457hp-878kg-590PP
Chaparral 2J: 518hp-995kg-590PP
Ford GT40 1969: 518hp-998kg-590PP

and I also managed to shoe horn in a very restricted Toyota 7 which gave me:

Toyota 7: 429hp-820kg-590PP

Really appreciate the input Tiddy. I ran time trials with everything except the 2D. Tough to get your hands on one. The all came within 1sec of each other around the High Speed Ring. Even the 2J with all the downforce it has a slow take off.

I see, well if you would like I could run the cars in both sets of tune? I'll run the cars to the 970kg limit although I'm not sure what can be done about the cars that are unable to drop to 970 :( Anyway, I'm just doing the vettel challenges (gold) but after I've attempted them I'll run the cars and post some times for you to have a look at and I'll run trial mountain, high speed ring and daytona road, the three should give a good idea of where the cars are in relation. It will probably take a little while to do though.

I'll look at 'em again in a few days. We just ran one at 900kg (didn't have either of the chaps) and it worked out fine.

Just curious, why post it so early?

Just curious as well- Why did you allow the 2J into the Historic Le Mans Cup even though it raced in the Can-am series and wasn't eligible to race at Le Mans?

'Cause a racing series doesn't have to be an exact replica of something to be fun. Also, do you know how difficult it is to get a substantial field of car together for a Trans-Am series? The Trans-Am cars are all over the place with weight and HP. Gotta find a happy medium where the lap times are very, very close. Otherwise you wind-up with an imbalance. It should be driver skill and not because he had a substantially better car.

Sorry, it's just I'm a little pedantic about realism and stuff :dopey: .
Also seeing as the 2J is the only Can-am car in the game (I think) it would be difficult to do a Can-am race series.

No apologies necessary. Everyone has their own cup of tea. Your point about the 2J is right on. My question then becomes since it's the only one in the game do we never race it because it doesn't realistically fit with any other series? It's performance fits with the cars in this series which is why it's included.

I suppose it's all a matter of personal preference. I don't like cars to be out of place, I like it to be as close to real life as possible- I also understand that this is a race series and you want to race cars of similar performance levels under a theme (in this case late '60s-'70s race cars). And anyway if I was being super pedantic I would point out that the 2D only ran Le Mans in '66 so never raced against the P4 and MKIV at Le Mans, that the XJ13 was never raced and that the John Wyer Gulf livery GT40 only raced in '68 and '69. But then you'd not have enough cars left to race with.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread- Hope you get some interest in the series.

NP Ford! Always up for a good informative conversation! Hope to run into you again. Next time on the track!

Also a note that the Toyota 7 was built for Can-Am, but never raced.

Right, I haven't had much time to give the cars a run but I got hold of the Mark IV so I now have all the classic race cars and the best compromise on performance that I found was this:

600PP/RH Tyres
Toyota 7 - 410BHP - 820kg
Chaparral 2J - 431BHP - 821kg
Chaparral 2D - 438BHP - 880kg
Ferrari 330 P4 - 460BHP - 810kg
Ford GT40 MK IV - 509BHP - 1000kg
Ford GT40 '69 - 549BHP - 998kg (only manages 599PP unfortunately but it's close enough)
Jaguar XJ13 - 516BHP - 998kg

As you can see the trend that fits mainly is that cars with less power have less weight and more power means more weight (bit obvious I guess but still). However some cars this isn't so true as they have much more downforce, hence the Toyota 7 has only 410BHP and the Mark IV when compared to the '69 weighs 2kg more but has 40BHP less.

I haven't had chance to drive them yet but will give it a go tomorrow, I know it's a bit sacrilegious to shoehorn the cars into specs like this but I think it's the way to go for a competitive race series. Something worth to note about these specs though is it requires a very balanced track list as the more powerful cars will get destroyed around somewhere like Cote d'Azur but should be much better at Le Sarthe than the slower but better handling cars.

Just something to think about, I'm trying to give a fair bit of input into this series but in the end I'm not the organiser so what you chose to do is up to you FishHunters, either way I'm in :)

Nice work Tiddy. I ran them on the High Speed Ring. It's my test track, so pretty good at it (lots of miles). If you run the test use 990kg and 502BHP. I had all to within 1 sec of each other. You're gonna have to use RH or RS tires.

Right, well I've done some testing although it's only been on La Sarthe (I've done lots of running here before (24 hours A-spec and more) and here are the results I found:

La Sarthe 09 no chicanes - Racing Hard tyres 600PP

car | fastest time | time taken for 2 laps
Ford GT40 MK IV - 3:34.462 - 7:09.193
Ferrari 330P4 - 3:34.988 - 7:08.984
Chaparral 2J - 3:31.387 - 7:02.405 (this car needs a HUGE amount of restriction or exclusion, it's so easy to drive and incredibly fast)
Jaguar XJ13 - 3:33.480 - 7:07.147
Toyota 7 - 3:54.861 (this car is just awfully slow in such a restricted state, I didn't even make mistakes it was already 15 seconds down after the mulsanne straight, impossible to run in the series, exclusion is probably best)
Chaparral 2D - 3:36.081 - 7:12.529 (probably needs a little boost, it has average straight line speed but has a tendency to understeer through corners even though it grips well)
Ford GT40 '69 - 3:36.247 - 7:12.460 (pretty quick in a straight line but bad handling and very hard to drive, probably needs a little boost like the 2D)

Thanks for your data! The 2J might have an advantage at La Sarthe without a Chicane, but it's got a looooong wind-up to get up to speed. On tracks with a lot of turns it's at a disadvantage.

Ahh see that's the thing though, The 2J by the time it reaches the end of the mulsanne is slower than the XJ13 (0.6 of a second slower actually) but by the next split it is 0.1 seconds behind and at the split midway through the porsche curves it is 1 second up the road.

The 2J is a amazingly good cornering car and all it's time is made in the corners so at a track like La Sarthe for a car to have superior handling and a comparatively low top speed to come out on top is quite telling.

I'll run another test on a different track tomorrow that has more corners to see how it compares but I'm fairly sure I've got an idea as to where the strengths and weakness's of each car lie apart from the 7, that thing is just rubbish when it has such a low power level.

All the cars were ran to 600PP by the way.

This is something I would be interested in if times work for me. I know you are testing different limits etc with different cars and all, but I think it should be much easier.
The two Fords, the Jaguar, the Ferrari, and the 2D were all cars design to run the same series. I have all of them and know that if you leave them all stock they are close enough that driver skill will make the difference. This is especially true on the tracks that they ran on: Sarthe, Monza (no chicanes), Daytona etc.
The Gt40 and the Jag are prize cars, credits are easy enough to come by that the Mark IV and 330 p4 are easy to buy. So there should be no problem to run a series with these cars alone. No trying to find limits that make a bunch of random cars competitive. Easy Peasy.

^So what you're saying is just forget the 2J and run the cars stock? I did think that, I'll have a look later, I honestly think that the GT40 '69 will be much slower than the others though.

It might be a bit slower by itself, but not so much so that drafting will make up for it.

I would also drop the Toyota.

It's not that slow on a straight it's just nowhere near as good in the corners and harder to drive than the rest of them.

I agree about the Toyota, it's just not really going to work if it has to be compromised to fit with the other cars.
