I have a Hot Seat Solo racing chair (sans the sound). I got it free from work in a raffle. It worked OKAY for my Logitech Driving Force GT setup -- leg room was somewhat of an issue at times, but I managed. I just "upgraded" to a Logitech G27 and I've run into a couple of "issues".
1) The shifter doesn't fit on the "wheel mounting plate" very well. I have to mount the steering wheel WAY off to the left just to even get it on the plate...and even then, the clamps on the shifter don't go tight enough to mount it on the thin plate...so I have to put a book in between the clamps and the bottom of the plate to tighten it down.
2) Now that I have a clutch, banging my knees on the bottom of the steering wheel plate became more of an issue as I went between pedals. I can accomodate a little, but it requires the steering wheel to be obscenely high which doesn't feel natural in the least.
3) The pedals plate isn't big enough to support the G27 pedals. There is a "carpet tack strip" on the bottom, but since it sticks up above the carpeted metal plate, the tack strip doesn't grab. Pressure keeps it in place for the most part, but late in races, I find myself hitting the pedals with my toes since the pedals have slowly inched upwards.
4) I'd love to be able to side mount my shifter, but unless I hack job something, I can't do it with my current setup.
Sooo...
I'm looking to sell it and change into something else (unless you think it is unwise)...
Here's what I'm interested in...
1) Something that will work comfortably for someone 6'7". Top priority.
2) Something that is a complete solution for about $300. And if it is near $300, it better take care of all of my issues.
3) Being able to side mount the shifter would be a nice perk.
I've seen the Wheel Stand Pro Deluxes. With shipping, they run about $200. I've read a ton of great reviews, but here are my concerns...
1) Will it work well with a tall person?
2) Do you lose the sense of "racing" since you're on a couch and not in a "racing chair" like I currently have?
3) There is no way to side mount the shifter.
There is also the Playseat Evolution. You can get them for $350 + Shipping (total is about $400) with the shifter attachment. So this takes care of being able to side mount and I'd still be in a "racing chair", but...will I run into the same issue I have now of banging knees, etc. Plus $400 is a LOT of cash.
Thoughts/feedback/etc.?
(Side/dumb question -- anybody know if the RPM LED's will work with GT5? They don't work with GT5 Prologue).
Thanks!
