Hello all
I have recently added a few new components to my driving set up and am more than ecstatic, these being a Fanatec GT2 Wheel, CSR Shifter Package, and a set of CSR Elite pedals. I have now logged a fair amount of hours with this setup and I am thoroughly impressed with the improvement over my Logitech Driving Force GT.
I have had my Logitech for about 9 months and I have had it mounted on a Rennsport wheel stand from Fanatec. The stand is rock solid and looks great.
I have tested the Fanatec setup with Forza on the Xbox and Dirt 2 on the PS3 but my main attraction is Gran Turismo. I just got GT5 a few months ago and it is my new addiction. I have owned every GT since the 3rd installment and can't get enough. Gran Turismo 5 provides by far the best force feedback experience I've ever felt on a racing simulator when in combination with the belt driven GT2. Lets get to the good stuff.
The GT2 wheel doesn't give the cogging feeling that you get when turning the Logitech, the belt system is much smoother than the gear driven one. The wheel rim is covered in a wonderful Alcanatra wrap and feels very smooth to the touch. It also helps keep hands dry during long hours of racing and is used by real racers around the world, very cool! I particularly like the Clubsport Aluminum paddle shifters that cam included with my GT2, it is a very nice addition.
The sequential CSR shifter is responsive and the knob is also covered in metal. But the highlight of shifting is the CSR 6 speed H-pattern shifter that is covered in metal and looks great. It works just as well and provides a nice assuring click into each gear. The sound seems dampened over the plastic ones I have seen in videos, this is probably due to the heft the metal knob provides. When the packaging arrived it had chipped a small portion while the shifter was jammed in third gear. It appeared to be just tight packaging but could have used some foam in my opinion. This is purely cosmetic but it still bothers me. The H-pattern works flawlessly with the clutch on the pedals but takes some getting used to.
The CSR Elite Pedals are definitely a strong part of the set and by far was the biggest advantage between the two set ups. The clutch is a great addition and provides a much more immersive experience. The gas pedal is much improved and i liked how i could strengthen both of these pedals with just a tightening of a nut. The brake pedal is the most useful of the three because of the load cell and foam system that it uses to sense pressure. I find myself regulating braking around corners instead of smashing the brake thus allowing for smoother laps and faster lap times, which is good
Overall my driving experience has been extremely enhanced but it did cost a pretty penny of around $500 US dollars for the wheel, shifter set, and pedals shipped to my door in California. It was well worth the money, just be prepared to spend a lot more time in the drivers seat
Pictures will be up soon, i have a bit of a mess right now haha Thanks for reading what i had to say and i hope it helps your outlook, have a wonderful day and look for me on the road! Post replies of your experiences with Fanatec below!
