No, not like that. :p By lipo, I mean LiPo, as in an R/C car battery. I have a Traxxas Rustler VXL, currently running an 8-cell 5000 Mah NiMH battery. On my last run, apparently the battery got too hot, and melted the insulation around the two top cells. Now the battery won’t charge past about 3000 Mah. I have been looking into a LiPo for a while now, and this seems like the perfect time to do it. Since I’m not totally sure how this all works, I’m hoping I can get some suggestions from you guys. The manual says to run a 3S 20C pack, however I have no idea what that means. I have 5000 Mah now, so I would like a battery with as much or more runtime than I get now. I’ve heard that LiPos run longer than NiMH, meaning a 5000 LiPo would run longer than the battery I have now. Is this true? And if so, then how long would it last?

I’ve found this battery at Tower hobbies, and this charger to go with it. However, if anyone has a better suggestion, please say so. I want to save as much money as I can.

Again, any ideas are welcome, and I hope you guys can help me out. :)

You mind telling me where it is? I searched.

Edit: If you mean the R/C car general thread, that looked pretty dead to me, and this seems like a pretty specific topic.

You'll be happy with a Li-Poly setup, the speed increase is more than worth the price of admission.

Just be sure to watch them while they are charging. Most modern chargers (like the one you listed), will be safe, but, just keep an eye on them.

Also, keep an eye on your motor, as Li-Poly can eat through brushes and bearings like crazy if you don't keep it lubed and clean; which is good practice with any thing really.

I bet your next step after Li-Poly will be a brushless motor setup ($$$).

I was mildly confused when I saw this thread title paired with the "hobbies" suffix. Or disturbed.

I'm one step ahead of ya there. The VXL system is brushless out of the box. 👍

So I think I've made a decision. After reading tons of negative reviews for Venom, I started looking around for a different brand. SPC came up, and I can get a much more reliable battery for $5 more. I'm pretty sure I'll go with that, and still get the charger I mentioned earlier. Hopefully this battery will perform well, and I'll let you all know how it goes.

Oh and Rykon, losing weight could be a hobby to some (strange) people. 💡
