As a company, Sony wouldn't outright say what the problem is... All they will do is apologise for the inconvenience, work towards improving their product (PSN) so things like this don't happen again... And maybe give us some free swag for our troubles...

They Won't sneak any thing as all patch downloads can be cancelled buy the user and then you can wait... till details get posted here or the GT site..

A patch will never be a surprise if you bother to look.
