You know I swear i've replaced pretty much all of my suspension and i'm still getting this damn ass knocking noise going over bumps. I mean jeet christ i've replaced struts, springs, balljoints, bushings, endlinks, antiroll bars.

Actually the only thing I havent changed are the upper mounts which looked a bit ropey but then I did buy some front camberplates to use instead but they didn't bolt up to my struts properly, well they didn't fit like the oe ones and didn't fit correctly once I reassembled the strut unit.

Maybe i'll just get some trd ones instead anyways as they work out cheaper than buying the oem ones and it's not like I need any more camber on the front sooo.

Car handles awesome now but damn if that knocking noise isnt annoying. I just want to get everything sorted so I can do some damn car control days here also so when I take GT to goodwood he wont ask me wtf that knocking noise is.

Mind you I thought my endlinks had gone again so I swapped out the fronts for a set of oe style ones, as the ones I had were pillowball type and known to wear pretty badly unless you grease them up. Which I had done anyway, so I replaced them. Mind you after like one drive the knocking noise reappeared. I also spent ages making sure every bolt on the front suspension was correctly torqued to spec and trying to replicate the noise while the car was in the air god damn is this gay as heck.

DAMN YOU FART CAR

btw if anyone wants to buy a set of Garage Fukui Phoenix Power/Ohlins 25 way adjustable struts for an sw20 just pm me ok as I have a second set.

knocking when going over bumps, eh? have you checked that the exhaust doesn't hit anything? and if the exhaust isn't able to touch the chassis or anything, then it could very well be in the suspension. try jacking the car up with floor jack and use some sort of lever to lift the tire and see if it indeed is the upper mount.

Is the spare tyre loose? I get a knocking noise, it's the jack bouncing up and down where I keep it. Make sure this isn't something just lying loose in your car or something.

I'm hecka pissed at your car too. There, glad we got that out of our systems.:sly:

It's not a problem with the exhaust as the knocking noise is coming from the front suspension and my car has no exhaust at the front whatsoever. It's definitely something suspension related, I bet its something gay like i've forgot to put the bumpstops back or i've installed the springs upsideown like a retart.

I tried levering bits of suspension while the car was up in the air also, doesnt make the noise but then it does if you say sit on the front and push it down.

hm... this is indeed intriguing. besides from replacing the parts, how have you tried to determine the source of the sound?

It'll be that girl you abducted and have hog-tied in your boot. Her head is probably banging on the firewall when you go over bumps.

C'mon Dan. That's not very likely, is it?

It's an MR2... Boot? What boot?

It's probably just his wooden leg hitting off the clutch rest.

Those knocks are usually caused by the upper mounts and often the bearing that is in the top of the strut has had it. Though I'm not sure on the setup on the SW20.

Or maybe the knock is from all the parts you bought for the car and never fitted? You should clear them out.

All I know is that McPherson struts should always be replaced by Civics' double wishbone setup.

Have you checked the steering system? Maybe you should get the car on an alignment rack so you can check while the car is at ride height.

Mine makes some weird clunking sound up front every now and then, but I can't feel it. My right front suspension was taken apart and reassembled with a new wheel bearing, and Doug's 30 years experience surely would have noticed something loose. My friend Donovan didn't find anything while he aligned it. If it still clunks after I replace the left bearing then I'm clueless.

All you guys are mean jerks, jerks I say.

Anyway it turned out that the upper part of the strut was fouling on the chassis. Because the guy who sold me the struts lost the two small bits for the front struts that were meant to go just below the uppermounts. I had to get someone to fabricate the part for me and now no more clunking!

Also I managed to get hold of a turbo engine lid (the na doesnt have the raised vents) because it was in the right colour and £30 including the rain tray and an iat sensor. Plus it has Japanese service information for that jdm baller factor.

A friend said to me 'oh but the na engine lid made your car look like a sleeper' but then how the hell can a mid engined two seater be a sleeper with the obvious massive exhaust and turbo sounds so thats the end of that argument.

Also I fitted some gauges in the spare din slot below my headunit. Hoo boy this was fun, I ended up buying a second dash surround to hack up to get the damn thing to fit in. Then I found out the oil temp and pressure sender things werent long enough, so only the boostu gauge works. So I need to buy two electrical 52mm oil temp and pressure gauges, or see if someone can extend the lines for the current ones. According to the boost gauge i'm making about 0.8 bar which is about right for the car.

Bonus mad tyte sideways shot

Now reading the boost down there is a major pain so I should shortly be receiving this in dash digital boost gauge. Way easier to read while driving and it just replaces my abseloutley useless voltmeter.

Next on the list are have the gear gaitor, handbrake gaitor, gearknob with refurbed items, have the wheels powdercoated anthracite and then on to powahhh.

A ST205 Celica GT4 air to water Chargecooler setup will be fitted (just waiting for someone to send it to me)

which is allot better at keeping the charge cool than the standard tiny smic I have currently and also a bigger spal fan to push hot air out of the bay better than the standard tiny one.

At the same time I will fit a downpipe and a C20b turbo from the newer version mr2 turbo. If i'm still not happy with the power i'll probably start looking at ems options, fueling and a bigger turbo.

Edit: remove suggestion to fix knokcing.

Duh. Okay, you fixed the noise. Is the car still annoying you?

Smaller exhaust? 💡

Smaller? How can i be JDM with a small exhaust? :dopey:

Although I have been eyeing up the HKS Hi-Silent power and my currrent exhaust is heavy has hell so I may end up changing that also.
