So I'm trying to use my 360 Elite with my monitor and there's no problem when the connection is via HDMI, but as soon as I plug in an RCA adapter it just restarts every time I switch modes on the monitor. Audio comes out just fine (I can hear FM4 right now) but for whatever reason it just doesn't work properly. I can do the same thing with the PS3 just fine so I know it's not the monitor. I'm using the Madcatz HD Audio adapter if it matters at all... which it shouldn't given what's said prior to this.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Is there a switch on the adaptor or cable to go between Hdmi and RCA? I believe some of the older 360's had those. (or maybe that was for optical audio; I can't remember).

I would mess with the pixel format and change the settings down to any resolution below 720p before switching over to RCA and see if that does anything.

Also, maybe try turning auto-discovery off if you have it on.

Are you using the RCA for audio, video, or both?

I believe that was for the component cables.

Nothing. I'm even using the official RCA cable (hacked off the bottom) and still nothing.

Did that and still nothing.

Audio.

EDIT: Why is it that I remember there being more audio options than what's available now? I'm not paying $30 for an overpriced VGA adapter. 🤬 that.

Hmm, odd indeed. Possibly a setting on the monitor... there's nothing else I can personally think of as far as Xbox settings that could cause it. I did this way back when with my old 360 as well.

The console just might be freaking out and outputting video through RCA instead of HDMI which is why you're losing connection to the monitor but still have audio.

Looks like that adaptor is the problem...

Check the reviews.

Tear apart the housing of the cable that came with the 360 so you can insert them both.

he did that

Ah, I'm blind. Black guy? Lol.

The Xbox is most likely failing to get a digital handshake with the monitor through HDMI because it is using RCA as default and over riding the HDMI port.

I would use any and all combination of connecting and turning on the console and monitor that you can think of until it starts working properly.

If you can hook up the RCA jacks to another monitor or tv while the HDMI is in your monitors port (or connect both RCA and HDMI to a single display) then change the XBOX console display setting back to HDMI (I am guessing it is defaulted back to composite); if that's the case... but that is what I am leaning towards is the problem.

Ahh it used to do that for me, I'm racking my brains right now trying to figure out how I fixed it..

Try Googling it, although I'm sure you have.

I can't find any helpful solutions through Google.

Looks like I'll just have to settle for a cheap VGA cable.
