hey guys
I went with my dad to a kart enduro race he was racing in for Toyota Attleborough. He works for the Dingles branch in Norwich, but their team couldn't make it, so he was driving for Attleborough.
Anyway, with about 10 mins or so before team practice, the team only had 3 drivers. So my dad asked if I wanted to race. After a quick thought, I said the obvious: YES!
The karts they were using were ProKarts, which can do 60-70mph, maybe more. Anyway, the race was the last in a year long series between local car dealerships. On the night, there were the likes of Kia, Suzuki, Ssangyong, Citroen and 3, yes 3, Lotus teams, as well as the Toyota team from Lowestoft. The series was done over a course of 6 events at Ellough Park Raceway, which has a simple layout with a mix of fast, medium and slow corners.
I did my 3 laps practice to get used to the kart. I picked it up pretty quickly and was ready to do my stint. The races are 1 & 1/2 hours, with 5 driver changes. There were 11 teams, hence 11 karts. Our team got kart number 7. Lucky, you may think, but i'll explain why it wasn't near the end
My dad would start the race, and then I would take the second 15 minute stint. When it was my turn, I hopped into the kart and set off. The first corner was wet, whilst the rest of the track was dry, so when I turned in with a little bit of power, I was understeering, and then as soon as I floored it, I was getting oversteer. Anyway, I managed 10 fun-filled laps, which were just that. I absolutely loved sliding the kart around and getting a few little drifts on
in the end we came last, but it was fun nonetheless. Anyway, my dad said that for the next season, I was going to be a team member. So, I'll be karting for Dingles Toyota next year!
