The only person I like at my place of eployment has given notice. His last day is Thursday. My friendship with him has been the only thing about working here that I like. There's some other people that are okay, but we're not friends.

So I have been feeling sad about it. I haven't felt this sense of loss in a very long time. For four years we've worked together every day. Now it's over. It'll be lonely. Of course I know I'll adapt, but I just wish I didn't have to. :(

That is all. You can all call me a ***** and a faggot and stuff now.

Edit : *The following post is closed caption for the thinking impair* . . . j/k man

I know that feeling, don't worry it is tough. You'll get over it : )

Fraggel.

Go home and meditate and then you light 100 candles for your friendship. And then you make a scrapbook with all your lovely moments together. And then you cry all night.

Seriously, life sucks sometimes.

I think part of my problem is that there really haven't been any people removed from my daily routine in so long. Things have been pretty static. I'm not used to this kind of stuff anymore. I know it probably seems stupid to a lot of people, but it's kind of a big deal for me right now.

Routines are pretty much the only things that make my days work.
Sorry to hear that, milefile. Perhaps you'll find another friend in those others you mentioned that 'are okay'.

Some people say change is bad. Some people say change is good. I say change is for vending machines.

Wheres your budd headed too, get a big juicy promotion??

A better job somewhere else. I'm envious, too. I gotta get out of here.

Probably.

Another angle: It's important to build a meaningful context about what we do with our lives. Not questioning your liking of him, but to some extent your friendship can be based on that. When he's gone, after a while you'll probably find something/someone else that makes your job bearable and mabye fun.

This is true, and I'm aware of it. It's more likely I'll leave, too, though.

Ah, I suffer the same syndrome. . . don't you hate that feeling? In the state of Florida, you need to be working to really have a shot any any job. . . I know this from several months of unemployment. . . So I am currently job hunting and looking for something better myself and when I see people leaving, I get the same feeling. . .

I'm looking through want-ads right now.
Well, as my Grandfather used to say, "while you're in a job, you're being paid to look for something better". And he ended up as Chairman of BOAC.

Change is generally unsettling, but it can also be a driver for your own benefit. Take it forward, and use it.

And anyone who says you're a wuss for "missing" a close work colleague is an idiot. I spend more waking time every week with the people that work either side of me than I do with my wife.

I'd say mile, that you gotta look towards the bright side of this. I know that you're losing a 4year pal, but, this way A) You'll meet new people, and make new relationships, B) Like you said, a new job with mo' money might be in order, and C) You'll get a chance to show off to some new guys all the toys you might have. :D
Show and tell was my favorite thing in school.

Dude, I know the feeling.
This past September I go to school for the first day of this year, and I learn that my best friend has moved away to Oregon. I had known beforehand that he was moving, but still, his absense has made a huge impact on my social life. Anyway, here's a tip for getting past it; know that you'll probably see him again from time to time, don't try not to think about his absense, ignore the fact that he's not there and move on. Seriously though, there's gotta be at least someone else you can get pretty close to (as a friend...)...

I know what you mean, its like when my neighbor moved away a few years ago, our familys were close, they even came up to NY form NC to visit and spend more time with us then their family. lol

Hold the presses, that is the best optimist approach I have ever seen in my life. . . But you forgot to mention the part of getting a freaking helmut

Well Sorry to hear that milefile... I can relate. Back in 5th grade my friend since kindagarten left and moved to texas.....I was sad for awhile....But eventually i got over it and found out i didnt need him so what the heck. BE STRONG!:)

Sorry to hear that Milefile. I can relate, as I work in a dept where I and another person (who started the same week as me) are the same age, but we are both about 20 years younger then the rest of the department. We both dislike our jobs, but somehow when you have someone to share the grumbles with, it takes the edge out of the day.

I am also looking for soomething else "whilst getting paid for it" as I know I can do better.

Best of luck with finding a more suitable job 👍

Thanks for the sympathy Mike Rotch and everybody.

When I think about how long I've worked there, hence with my soon-to-be-former co-worker, it's weird. Four years is the longest I've ever worked any where. And I've had better jobs, most likely.

The situation is like Mike Rotch's. The as-good-as-former co-worker/friend is the only person I could relate to at all there. It's going to suck not having that one "someone to share the grumbles with" to take the edge out of the day".

Who will I complain to? And to top it off, he won't want to complain anymore, with the new and improved job. I'll be stuck alone with all the people we laughed about. But at the sme time I know his situation and how this move will benefit him and his family, so as his friend I am first happy for him.

It is a very horrible situation to be in Milefile. I know how this job has retarded my motivation in general - I can only imagine what it would be like without a "crutch" to share the problems with.

All I can suggest is either trying to move to a different dept (if that is possible) or spraying your resume to as many recruitment agencies (I am not sure if you have them in the US..) and to companies where you would like to work.

Perhaps another idea is to stick this job out for a bit longer - whilst you take the real estate agents exam (or equivalent), and then trying to get into the Real Estate game. If I remember right, you have expressed interest in that previously.

I don't know what was wrong with me when I came up with that. Must have been that crack I snorted before posting.

What I ment by that is that this will probably be good and bad for you. I'm sure you got that figured out by now though. It will be bad in that you are losing a friend, but good that maybe this will give you a chance for some new great opportunities.

But I still mean the whole thing about vending machines liking your change.

I think it's fair to say that today will be the worst day. It's his last day. He's just packing and shredding and all the work I once gave over to him now goes to my boss. *shudders*

It would be easier if he was just not here. I have to admit I'm somewhat surprised by my reaction to this. I wish I wasn't embarassed but I am. I guess you don't notice some attachments until something like this happens.

Ah well. "Ya gotta adapt." - Muddy Mudskipper.

Who knows maybe something good will come from this change in your life. From the sounds of it your job doesnt sound fun at all. My old job was like that, theres nothing more fun than going to a job that you absolutely hate and the few people that made it enjoyable are now gone, that not fun at all. Especially if their job is not filled by another person.

Can't you keep in touch with him by e-mail?

Of course I can, dimwit. I can call on the telephone, too. And I'll do both. But you obviously have no idea what it's like to work with the same people at the same place for a long time.
