I'm sure everyone here opened up their PS2's at least once...

Somewhere.
There's this sort of reflective plastic-ish strip going from the bottom of the cover to the base, and it's stuck to the disc tray cover... I opened my PS2 for some "cleanup" (it's insane the amount of dust that gets in these things!) and it came unattached... Anyone knows if this thing is vital to the PS2's health? (or lack thereof, considering how many problems there are with the thing.)

You mean this white cable?:

Nope, it's a plastic strip. I've got a SCPH-39001. The said strip goes into a connector hidden underneath the disk player. I figured out how to reinstall it, I just need to figure out how to take the disk player off the PS2... and I don't think that's possible.

I believe you just unscrew the two gold colored screws, one on each side of the disc player.

Well, I got it figured out, finally. The day there's a game that spikes my interest for the X-Box, I'm switching over... Stupid pile of garbage.
