At school we're designing a website for an assignment. I'm doing all the coding and stuff and we've got some images on the page but they have white backgrounds on a blackish background picture, I was wondering how you could get the backgrounds of the images to look transperant.

Thanks for any help.

This is more about the images than the web pages, so I'm going to move this to Digital Art Help.

If your using photoshop do the following:

  • Erase the white colour around the image so it's got the gray/white boxes showing.
  • Then goto Save For Web> not Save As, in there save it as a .png.
  • Make sure you've checked Transperency.

IE doesn't support transparent PNGs so if a person browses the site with IE they wont see the transparency.

But it does support .gif transperency right?

Thank you for your help.
